08 GT3RS Confirmation...

Compared to the new M3, which BMW sold at least 50,000 of on their last generation run, the GT3 and GT3 RS production is like a hiccup. I hope that Porsche keeps it that way.
Rich
If you think Porsche is going to build more cars b/c the ones sitting on the lots aren't what you want then you are all living in fantasy land. Basically, if your not taking one on the lots you really don't want one badly enough.
But I don't blame anyone for not wanting one badly enough since the RS is so similar to another car that Porsche offers which provides similar performance AND you can order one they way you like it - see 997GT3. And that's why, my friends, Porsche won't be increasing any allocation for the RS, there are too many of them already.
If the RS really did offer a performance improvement, ie 200kg lighter than the standard GT3 and had 50 more HP than the standard GT3 then I could 100% see Porsche building more but when the car is so similar to the already fantastic GT3, it just doesn't make any sense.

No, I chose the RS at MSRP.
But not everyone is as careless with their money as I am. The RS is still $28K more than the GT3 at MSRP.
Further, I have seen at least 7 people on this forum and other forums who had the opportunity to take an RS but chose a GT3 OR another car all together instead.
If it wasn't for Euro del, I would have stuck with my old GT3 as well. The RS is as some of the magazine articles called it - an extravagance over the GT3. Nice to have but really not necessary. Not many people are willing to spend the extra on really, what amounts to be very little.
And the only reason that this price escalation continues to happen is b/c people who are seeing RS's being offered - OFFERED not sold - at $50K above MSRP - want to get in on the action and they in turn perpetuate this demand. Get your hands on an RS, make a quick $50K. Pretty nice and quick return if you can do it, don't you think?
The demand is virtual.

I agree with RR4, I think that the dealerships are to blame. Dealerships aren't going to order more RS's when they have them sitting on their floors already. It's not a matter of too much supply, but simply the fact that dealerships spec'd them out as they wanted them and not how the customers wanted them to make a larger purchase price, therefore, they're going to sit on them since people don't want the cars spec'd in that manner. They really shot themselves in the foot as, many people were willing to pay the premium for the RS which was already quite far above the GT3, but once the dealerships spec'd them with all the bells and whistle's that you'd normally find on a Carrera and not expected on a car such as the GT3RS, it defeats the purpose of paying the premium for the car when they can't order it the way they want ie. sans custom heated butt conforming seat massagers and toe ticklers. I DO however think there will be a very limited number of '08's similar to how there was a VERY limited number of '05 GT2's. The GT2 in Porsche's eyes didn't live up to expectations in sales because the same thing happened, dealers optioned their allocation cars in ways that their customers didn't want which is why there are so many EXTEMELY low mileage GT2's in the market in relative terms to how many were produced. I think with the '08's, they'll probably all be allocated and spec'd to the way people want them and not to how the dealerships want to sell them, since that's what the market is dictating. I think the dealerships need to realize on a niche market car such as this, they need to listen to the customer and leave the "up-sells" to the Carrera 2's and 4's.

My dealer prefered not to answer my question about the 2008 model (hmm), and simply says
"Porsche 911 GT 3 RS will be manufactured throughout 2007. I don't know whether we will be getting any more RS' during the fall."

Demand is there, at least in CA. To use the $hiet color analogy, probably no one wants Orange (NO offense Orange owners, I like the color myself). However, I know of one Carrara White one, that just sold for the full 44k markup + some at my local dealer. Go figure...if someone wants something, they will pay.
