997 GT2 anything?
997 GT2 anything?
I talked to my P car dealer guy the other day and he did some checking with the "upper" echelon of Porsche USA and they are very inconclusive to say the least if there will be a 997GT2 for the North American market.
Porsche does have plans to unveil the 997GT2 later on in 2007,they told him, but hopes for us in the states are slim to none, and slim just left town. I hope he is wrong or they are being secretive about it coming here.
Anyone have any other info, I tend not to believe what they tell their dealer networks as sales is the name of the game, I mean that they want them selling the vehicles that are here and not the "maybe" this model will be available here.

As for it coming to America, only time will tell. Wait a bit for the GT3 RS's to get to dealerships, etc. I'm sure once those are distributed we will be hearing more info regarding the GT2.

The latest info I have from Europe - from P Cars AG...
If the GT2 is built it will be built with US Specifications in mind. Porsche's largest market is the U.S.. Its all about profitabilty for Porsche AG. The years of low volume homologation special editions cars that did not reach U.S. shores like the 993Gt2 /959 are long gone.
I am however told that it may be offered on a low # allocation order only basis to try and keep the resale value up. They wont flood the market like they did with the CGT because it didnt meet crash safety standards.

PAG also got burned on the 996GT2, sales-wise it was a disaster in the US. It was overpriced to say the least. That's why PAG might be hesitant on this particular model. But, I agree the days of the euro only one off cars are over, as long as they can sell them.

Thats the scary part, why put a sunroof on it. Keep it real GT2 style, no BS and creature comforts, no PASM, sound deadening material. You want quiet and navigation get a TT. GT2 should be raw, uncut, spit in your face if you mess up, demanding respect. There should not be a "oops, its okay" to the GT2.
If it is a kindler gentler GT2, I will take the 996GT2 over it.

I'm sure it'll be fine with the exception of TC and perhaps a sunroof.
Which reminds me... anyone know if Porsche got around the sunroof issue with the GT3 RS by crashing some cars or with a DOT exemption for low production #s?
