997GT3--Brake upgrade opinions??

I have Brembo GTR's from previous cars and contemplating putting them on my new GT3. Currently have steel brakes. Don't really want to mess w/ what Porsche engineered in the new car.

Does anyone know if brake bias will change as result of changing the brake system? I read somewhere that Porsche designed the new 997GT3 system to take advantage of the wider tire contact patch for increased braking. I confirmed this w/ a friend who noticed his rear brakes were hotter than front after a few runs at Laguna. Anyone else experience this?

The braking system is part of the PASM -- that may be the biggest hurdle, overcoming the electronic controls.

Try them out first and if you're not satisfied then change what needs to be changed.

Hey man.. working with brembo on this and I will say PASM has shut down a good few doors in regards to suspension and braking... Lets not rush on this one... I'd like to look at imrpoving the cooling to the rotors first. Once it's on the lift we can take a peak and see.

PS Your GTRs are reserved for the 800HP monster!

james, dont worry, you will not overheat your GT3 brakes.
i never liked GTR brembo's on GT3 or GT2's. too much initial bike, poor modulations. i like stock steel brk, run RS19 or RS14's you be fine.

hey mooty... there were two _different_ GTR kits out there... one with a 14 inch rear and the other with the 13.6, man the pros (as opposed to Joes lol) like Van Overbeek, Law and Wagner _all_ said they were the best thing since sliced bread. Amazing heat dissapation, crazy bite (as you said), but they never got hot and could pound them lap after lap... They are used to using them on thei lighet ALMS cars. At least they were better in the version 2 and doing their style of hot-lapping vs any of the steel stockers or even PCCBs that were at the shoot outs. Now bearing in mind we're not talking 415hp TT's or 450GT2s, more like 700-800hp... There's a lot of options and brake pads and such... They need to be done/installed/broken-in and set up correctly. I had the wrong pad set up on my own car in 2003 at the European Car shoot out for one of the events etc... And you can hammer the F50s on the track car and/or the GTRs on the TT when I get my *** out there and you can teach me how to drive in circles. I only have the going straight part down....

Poor modulation?

Just curious what set up you had a chance to drive, and if you know what pads they were running??? 4-piston or 8-piston??? What size discs??

I'm just curious.
Not trying to bust your ba!!$, but modulation should be amazing with the GTR kit. I'm pretty sure anyone on this forum who has them on their car, or has had a chance to really get on them would attest to that.

It's always better to form your own opinions after you try them out. You never know, you might not need to change/upgrade.

gary and alex,

the GTR brake i drove was on james w's GT2. i believe they were 8 pistons however i dont know the pad compound. it has way too much grab. perhaps if it is set up with different pads, i will change my opinion. but as it was, i much prefer the stock 996gt3 or 997gt3 binders with RS19, RS29 or RS14's.

Ah ok.. JW's kit on the GT2 was version 1 originally but once we moved it over to the GT3 and TT we did so with newer parts and brake pads etc... so it got really dialed in. Had a lot of bit but was consistant etc...
