2,800 lbs? I don't think so. Bigger Tires, wheels, the Supercharger itself. GM doesn't have the Engineering knowledge/budget to produce a car 400 lbs lighter than the 997 GT3 RS with two extra cylinders and a blower.

They may not have the will, but engineering knowledge and budget are not an issue.

I don't know how much you know about the LS series engines but they are very light. I come from the rotary world and the LS engines are very comparable to rotary engines in terms of size and weight.

It doesn't make any sense to question GM's engineering expertise, with a near $30k price increase GM can do whatever they want to.

Plus, the GT3 will hold the value way better than the SS.
given the exclusivity afforded by limited production numbers, this is doubtful.

The limited production doesnt really mean a lot. Look at my favorite car the AM.. They drop like a rock and they are built in small quanities. Plus its still a vette with a SC on it. Sure its gonna be fun to drive and just run the hell out of it in general, but its not going to have the reliability of the GT3. Plus the GT3 isnt exactly being mass produced either...

And I also agree with what someone said earlier, why are we even comparing the two cars anyway? Why not compare to the GT2?

Yeah that's what I said too but that is the only way they will be able to justify the cost. Otherwise you can forge your reg Z06 motor and make 650 hp REALLY easy for less money.

GM has plenty of engineering knowledge, It's not a fluke they have won the American Lemans Series for like 7 years running beating the likes of Audi. Won the 24 hours of Lemans quite a few times. Besides they can make a V8 motor with 500 hp not much bigger and weighing less that a Porsche 3 liter 6 cylinder motor, sounds like engineering to me. The problem GM has is the quality of materials used elsewhere on the car, clutch, drivetrain, subframe, interior etc.

A limited-production, special edition model is not comparable to Aston Martin's lineup. Grand Sports and Zr1s held their respective values very well.

The DBS is going to be a limited production model and it will tank in a few years. The demand for them isnt that high. I dont think many people will want to spend 100+k on a Chevy when they can have the likes of a used Ferrari, a Pcar, or even an older Lambo either. If it is just a track car you want, then maybe it would be an option. But none the less, it is still just a vetter with a SC and maybe some new suspension. Why would anyone want to spend this amount of money on a car that is probably going to be put together poorly?

Im sure Dave from Hawaii hasnt spent 100+k on his vette with a SC...or maybe he has. I dont know. But I would rather have the extra 30-40 grand to mod the car myself.

true, the older ones have because they were great cars. The newer ones no. My boss took a hit selling their 03 vette. Granted they did buy the new Z06 and they do have an XLR also. My dads best friend was a vette-aholic. He owned a 40th anniversary edition along with like 4 other vettes... and he took massive hits on all of them.. just my experience hope.
