RS Roll Cage

Is it normal for the RS Roll Cage to rub into the hood liner of a 997 GT3?

Yeah, that's why you can't open the sunroof on a GT3 with the RS roll bar.

The sunroof makes the roof liner that much closer because it robs some of the headroom.

They are not normally that tight but the RS roll bar is for non sunroof cars I believe. I had it installed and it is very tight. Too tight for the sunroof but that did not matter to me.

GMG 997 GT Cup Harness/Roll Bar
An evolution of the factory Tequipment bar, our GT Cup bar is made of 4130 Chrome-Moly Tubing that has been tig welded and normalized for superior strength and rigidity. A common problem of the factory T equipment bar is that it requires the use of 1-piece fixed back GT3 style seats for proper leg room. If you are 5’10” and taller moving the seat back far enough is a challenge with factory bar. The GMG 997 GT Cup Harness/Roll Bar offers these key features.

- Made of Chrome-Moly Tubing that has been carefully tig welded and normalized
- Designed to work standard reclining seats or GT3 fixed back seats offering drivers the ability to move the seat all the way back (Not possible with the factory Tequipment Rollbar)
- Designed to work with clip in kit for harness (no need to drill holes in your floor to mount the harness anchors)
- Additional cross-brace for increased rigidity and strength
- Comes complete with all hardware to install. Mounts like the factory bar –(directly to seat belt anchors, no cutting required of car)
- Available in Standard Satin Black finish or Bavarian Silver powder coat (optional color matching to your car available)
- Weight comparison Factory T Equipment Bar (Not track legal with most sanctioning bodies) in Stainless steel 28 lbs./GMG Harness bar 36lbs.
- Installation at our facility is available and recommended.
- Shipping available (oversized)

Fitment: All 997 coupes including GT3, GT3RS and 997TT
(Please specify with our without sunroof)
Price: $1495.00

The RS roll bar (factory) fits extremely tight in a GT3. They fuse for the sunroof was removed in my car so you'd never inadvertanly open the sunroof sinc it can't open and may get stuck. The install is a little more labor intensive. Champion Motorsport put billet aluminum plates underneath the chassis. It appears to me the GMG roll bar does not bolt to the rear suspension because the RS roll bar does and it makes a real improvement in the structural rigidity.

Napleton Porsche is going to modify mine and shorten it to clear the sunroof properly. I wish I knew about the GMG one before buying the RS one, because I really am enjoying my GMG exhaust quite a bit (everyone that hears it loves the sound, and a friend of mine already ordered one for his GT3 too).

I agree with you, the way the RS one mounts it probably does add quite a bit of structural rigidity.

Hey Jim Bachus, you're better off with the factory roll bar. You will feel the difference. The other roll bar is nice but consider you have an OEM product. My roll bars are in there tight as a drum and the car feels wickedly like a track car. I recommend you get the RS single mass flywheel. It feels great. BTW I would like to thank you for helping me getting the side GT3 graghics. If I could ever help concerning any motorsport issues please feel free to contact me ( PM me ). Good luck, GT3Ranger ( Juan ).
