changing the brake fluid is more important than changing the pads.

also depends on how much experienced you have had in the past on track. if you are starting, then stock pad is more than enough. if you got 100+ days, i would immediately change the pads to PF or pagid of your liking.

The stock yellow pads are made by PAGID.

correct.
but when ppl say pagid yellows, they refer to RS19 & RS29.
the stock "yellow" is neither and do not have the same bite.

am I the only one that's comfortable using stock pads with extreme heat? (like track conditions?) I find that after dealing with the green fade that happens every time you get these pads hot again, I have more than enough bite to stop the car, rotate, do whatever I need the car to do. If anything, the tires are my limiting factor...can't get the torque down through the rubber to the pavement without activating ABS. I find the lighter the squeeze the easier to get the rubber down.

You will cook (overheat) your stock pads quickly if you are driving hard, which is fine - just be prepared to replace them after a few days of track use.

John: how are the RS29's for street use? I have pretty much cooked the stock pads on my GT3 (thanks I am sure to Laguna Seca). Also, didn't you post the part numbers for the RS29's a while ago?

2707 RS29
8006 RS29

these are the numbers shown on my receipt. call up austin at the racer's group, he's got them in stock. you only got a week left until PCA GGR at TH.

i dont swap pads b/n street and track, it's either RS19 or RS29 for me. 29 has more initial bite. they are fine on street even when cold in 60 deg morning. i never had prob stopping on street due to cold pads.

they do squeak. to kill the squeak, bed the pads like you normally would. that will quiet them down for 5-800 street miles. then you have to rebed them again to kill noise.

the squeak isn't that bad. also sometimes i get Rs19 or 29's that simply are dead silent from new to dead.

John, thanks for your help. TH is a no-go for me. But I love your comment about 60 being "cold". I live up on the mountain above Reno - in a month or so 60 deg will seem pretty warm. I think I had better check with Pagid to see how the RS29's work when it gets colder than that!

Good luck at TH - I am sure that you will go faster than 2:04 - probably a new lap record, I'm thinking.

you get to a pt where the acutal brake per stop doesnt really change but how often you can stop at that level does...thats why one uses higher temp brake pads...so yes, the tires become the limiting factor quite quickely. That said, I would just use Pagid Orange if you have NOT been to the track but dont want to beat up on the stock pads. The orange has suprisingly great bite and lasts for quite some time. That said, after you really get a feel for pedal actuation and control, just move to the 19/29 compound as they (for our heavy cars) really do an AMAZING job on these cars. I would also suggest some higher bp fluids (i personally use castrol srf but...that could be a bit extreme)...you could definitely use rbf 600 or even ate blue/gold.

My understanding is that the stock pads are yellow in color and made by Pagid but these are different then the Pagid Yellow pads which are more of a track pad.

My stock pads are not yellow, they are black with PAGID written on them. The number was RF-44 or something like that. hmm...
