Lamborghini Gallardo vs. Porsche Turbo

I have an interesting question. I work in Lamborghini sales and too many times I have a customer that comes in and is debating between a Gallardo and Turbo.

Why is this? I see the cars as non-comparable.

The Turbo is more practical and affordable. The Gallardo screams for attention and is a little more maintenance as far as driving goes.

I think both cars are great, but they would have different uses in my life. If I had both, the turbo would be my daily, and the G would be for the weekends.

Anybody here make the decision between the two? What did you decide on and why?

Thanks.

I have owned both...the Gallardo is my pick
turbo has no road feel, almost completely isolated from the road, even with the sport function engaged, it looks like a boxster and every other porsche on the road

the Gallardo looks awesome, work of art, great engine sounds, great road feel

the gallardo is definitely on another floss level than the turbo.

a turbo just wouldn't quite pull it off like the lambo in the above vid

I have both (997 turbo coupé and Gallardo Spyder) and if I MUST chose that I would keep the Gallardo (if I still have another DD).

The Porsche is faster, the Lambo is cooler/looks great/sounds amazing. If you want the Porsche to stand out you need to mod it pretty hard. But as a DD the Porsche is still better (smaller turning circle, better visibility, still more reliable).

But in the end ... when you take your Lambo out ... well, I can't really explain it ... it's out of this world

With a few options the price difference is well over 40.000 euro

Pricewise not even close...nicely loaded TT in the US is in the 150K range...Nicely loaded G is closer to 200K

They are comparable in performance though...

An interesting data point is that many ex-996TT owners here did the move to a Gallardo...

And now, many are moving from the G to a 997TT (In Dubai, many are making the G to R8 jump)

Maybe they are comparing a slightly used G to a new 997TT (with funds left over for mods).

The MSRP has gone up over the years on Gs. A nicely loaded 2008 goes for just under 240k. That's about 100k more than a turbo. You can definitely pick up a pre-owned under 150k, but it will most likely be out of warranty. That's one of the places where I have confusion. I'd want it to be under warranty. At least my first one. Same with Porsche, gotta have the warranty. I've had some extreme problems with my Porsches in the past.

I can see no other reason other than the Porsche is a lot better for DD and don't have to worry "as" much when parking somewhere.

I have owned a Gallardo and my DD is a F77 C2S. The Gallardo in my opinion is not a daily driver. Attention issues aside there is limited room for anything but you and a passenger. The Porsche is more comfortable, can be parked without worry and has more room (back seat for example). The one thing the Gallardo has on the Porsche as a DD is the lift system. When used, I have never once scraped the front lip on my Gallardo. The Porsche, happens all the time.

I also think the price difference today is not the same as a well optioned Gallardo is over $200k now.

Hope this helped.

I decided on both...as you know. The Turbo is the best daily driver by far. You have all the performance and comfort (so long as you do not need a lot of space) and the reliability. Maintenance (service only) on the TT is under $ 1000 for the first 3 years.

The gallardo is a blast to drive ( it is definately an attention getter), a completely different "experience" than a TT and not something that you want to cruise around in on a daily basis. The maintenance is far higher than a Porsche, less than a Ferrari and the reliability is great in my experiance. However, it's not a Porsche and nor is the Porsche a Lamborghini. They serve different purposes.
