SMG/DCT question

Guys I was curious if anyone knows a substantial amount about the e-gear in lambos?

Is this tranny more like the SMG or DCT?

Or neither?

E gear uses a normal manual transmission with a shift actuator on the transmission. A dsg tranny is a dual wet clutch transmission. Very different. The clutches in the dsg is are in the transmission where as the e gear transmssion is a tradtional clutch setup which is located in between the engine and the gear box that uses a hydraulic release bearing.

E-gear is single clutch just like SMG and Ferrari F1. I personally prefer it to dual-clutches (DSG, DCT) because with those you can barely notice a shift has taken place. The way those work is, one clutch engages while the other one simultaneously disengages, so you don't "feel" the shift. Its meant to be super fast and super smooth, but its also super boring. Single automated clutch is a lot rougher, but its also a lot more involving and more fun. Too bad Ferrari is switching to dual clutches now...

The Ferrari F1 system , E gear, and the non M car SMG transmission are all made by Magneti-Marelli. ( M car SMG is made by Siemens)

The Lamborghini E gear has slightly slower shift speeds than the fastest versions of this transmission made by Ferrari. They are know for having a more mechanical feel but also have certain nuances that make them different from what you may be used to.

Does the manual transmission hold more power (ie turbo'd at 1000rwhp+) or is this a moot point since they are basically the same trans as the e-Gear unit?

Same thing as far as I understand. The record-setting 1000whp+ UR gallardo was e-gear. I'm sure the clutch itself has to be upgraded though.

Thanks for the explanation!

So it's not a pump (as far as I understand, like the SMG 2) on the BMW's, correct?

It's more like 1700+whp. UGR uses Tilton clutches.

The E-Gear has a pump but I'll let someone else chime in...
