Looking to get a Gallardo. Whats service like?
Hello Guys,
I'm interested in leaning more about the gallardos. I currently own a 2010 GTR with some mods (800hp modified stock turbos). I purchased the car new and the thing has been bullet proof. (knock on wood). Service has been fairly simple in my opinion. I now perform all my own fluid changes and have the ability to do transmission relearns with my access port. The GTR is a great platform.
How are the Gallardos as far as service and maintenance? I've heard some horror stories concerning Mercielagos. Odd parts malfunction and dealer charging an arm and leg for the replacement.
Im looking to find a very low mileage Gallardo and putting some miles on it to learn more about the platform and then possible choosing a entry stage Underground Turbo package.
Is there a particular year to look for? ( better transmissions or revised suspension). I know each year the GTR has had some type of a upgrade to better the car.
Thanks guys,

The Gallardo is a solid car and much more reliable then the Ferrari line. It's basically an Audi and so many parts are interchangeable between them. I personally own an 04 with egear. I absolutely love it. Make sure you have the latest revision to ECU's and Clutch. After 06 they did improve the clutch. In 2009 the LP line came out and the car was refined. I have no concern about owning an older model. I do a lot of my own maintenance. Just don't be afraid to get your hands dirty and learn the car. Some great deals on older models right now. Best of luck and hope you fine the right one.

I also own a 2004 Gallardo with 9k miles and I absolutely love my car! I don't see myself trading my car anytime soon.... I actually think I will invest some money in a TT system next year ;-)

I have an 08 super leggera. Bought it 2 years ago with 2,300 miles on it. I'm now at 18,000 !! No major repairs. Been on the track twice. Top speed 180. Though I dream of the aventador, I love this car.
I've had 6 from 07 to currently a 13SL, all egear coupes. They are all sensational cars. The 09 and newer are vastly improved in many areas.
Also, since I had a ugr bolt on kit on my 11SL, i can assure you it performed flawlessly!

Hello Guys,
I really appreciate the replies and very happy to see that the Gallardo is a solid car. I was hoping to get good info because I really like the vehicle.
Do the V10 engines come with forged internals or are they cast?
With all the data out there, what's seems to be the safe power level with the twin turbo kits with stock engine internals and transmission? Does the Gallardo have an Achilles heal? I know the GTR is controlling heat. Also torque levels above 600wtq will eventually cause stock transmission failure.
also is there a particular year that has the adjustable front suspension to better avoid spoiler scraping?
Thanks guys,

Thanks guys,
Iv got an 04 6 speed with ~5100 miles. I bought it a few months back with 3600. Since taking the helm Iv done the fluids, plugs, coils, test pipes. These cars are as easy to work on...general maintenance anyway...than pretty much every other HP car out there. I find them far easier to tinker with than my 997TT.
That being said I know Im gonna need a clutch soon and that is something I cant do myself and I hear the bill isnt cheap.

Do you really need a new clutch? Wow... My car has 9,000 miles and I still have 50% clutch!
Tall to Glem as you know he has the best prices for Lambo parts!
Are you getting a OEM clutch? Or a Kevalar clutch?
Hey Leo....Im not sure about needing a clutch but Im sure Ill be doing one by this time next year. You cant "check" the clutch life on the 6 speed cars like you can the E Gear cars so Im just speculateting. Hope for the best!
So you already put 3k miles on it eh? Nice!
You don't need to replace the clutch unless it is slipping.....
I think the clutches in these cars are replaced too soon. There are cars out there making more power and don't need the clutch replaced every 10k miles....it is just absurd!
Even on the e-gear cars, the diagnostic computers don't read how much clutch life is physicall left do they? No, they probably calculate or guestimate based on driving characteristics, etc....like engine oil/fluids. If you go beyond what the computer says, the clutch isn't going to blow up.

How does the computer know, though? Does it have something like a brake wear sensor telling it how much material is left? Again, I'm just surprised how soon these clutches need to be replaced, even from spirited driving. Even track driving....now, drag strip, ok....
