New model fears?

Hi all. Thought I'd ask the group, does anyone have reservations about a brand new model? The S has the detuned Panny 3.0 V6 and the Turbo is a brand new Porsche engine. Any fears of getting the first year of a new model?

Would like to hear your thoughts.

I always get first model year of any of my Porsches. I don't like to wait. If something is wrong, warranty will fix it. If the car is really bad, then just sell it. Fortunately this has never happened to me yet.

I'm going to wait until the second or third model year Macan. A family member of mine purchased one of the first brand new 2011 Cayenne S and now she is going to court with Porsche because of all the problems she has had.

Better safe than sorry.

no reservations here (S). i've had several new cars and 1 complete lemon... that was the new honda civic in 2006 and i documented about 35 faults including loose airbags and broken engine mounts, but that car was made in thailand and hopefully german attention to detail is better. that said, i read porsche is doubling its workforce in Leipzig to build the macan, so there is a risk that the cheapest model will be built by the least experienced staff...

i will warranty any issues and if that does not rectify them promptly then i guess i will just move on to a better brand. i am not expecting the same level of service as if i was a 911 owner, but i can live with that.

Don't worry, you'll be getting the same level of service as the 911 owners (and every other Porsche owner). I feel like their quality of service is the same across the board, no matter how much you paid for your Porsche.

^ Agreed. A co-worker gets the same service on his $9k Boxster as anyone else would in their 911.

It all depends on the dealer. The one near me sucks. Your experience may vary.

I'm a 911 owner, and I must say that I get outstanding service at my dealership, Porsche of the Main Line. I don't think it's car dependent, but dealer dependent though. I expect to get exactly the same exact service on my Macan next year.

In fact, one of the main reasons I've ordered a Macan is the great service at my dealership!

Very glad to hear all the above! For some reason there's a smaller dealer further away from me that has more Macan preorders, if I'm not happy with the service at my local then I know where to go.

There may well be initial year problems to contend with, but Porsche has a lot riding on this new model, so I'd expect that they will be paying lots of attention to service issues with very quick action to ameliorate any problems (as best they can) and keep Macan customers satisfied---especially in the U.S. market which is expected to account for the majority of Macan sales. That being said, a lousy dealer is still the face of Porsche to the customer which always negatively affects the customer experience.

I would never buy a first year model of any vehicle, no matter the brand. Statistics are clear that first year models have the most amount of problems and in vehicles as expensive as P cars... I'm not willing to be the guinea pig. I do agree with some of what has been said above; however, that finding a GOOD dealer is extremely important. Here in S. CA we have a lot of dealer choices. That's the good news. The bad news is that some of our dealers are absolutely HORRIBLE. Do your homework, it'll pay dividends.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. I'm holding off on preordering, as I'd like to see/drive a Macan before making a decision, but I'm definitely intrigued by it. I'm not too worried about service levels from the dealer (the only P car dealer in town has been good the past few years), but more so thinking about how many times it may have to go in for any potential issues.

I did order my 958 in late 2010 and I've had nothing but positive experiences all around, but the Macan, being a brand new model with a new engine, got me thinking about potential issues. Time will tell I suppose...

Thanks again.
