Macan Washing

Hi...when I had my 911, I always washed it by hand but I also never drove it in the winter. Now that I have the Macan, the winter roads trash the paint. I would like to know any opinions about running the Macan through a car wash. Is it safe? Will a car wash damage the paint? The 911 was soft and I would never risk it but I can't wash the Macan in the winter. Thanks in advance for any opinions or experience.

Not sure about Macan. My observations from the Cayenne are that its paint is medium hard on the hood and the front but rather soft on the sides and rear.

This is a problem as the areas which stand to get scratched during a wash are exactly those which bear the least impact from the road.

Car washes with nylon brushes will certainly scratch the paint. Those with microfiber will fare better, though in my experience only a two or three bucket hand wash is gentle enough to protect the paint.

Any car wash will damage your paint - it's just a matter of whether or not you mind swirls all over your car. Even "hand wash" places use the same towels to dry every car.

I always hand wash my own cars using two buckets and microfiber wash mitts. It's the only way to be sure.

during the winter months, i go through touchless car washes. Takes about 6-7 minutes and 10 bucks where I'm at. I take it once a week just to keep the salt off

Yup. Hand wash only if you want to keep swirls at bay. There are hand wash guys everywhere arent there? I go to no touch in the winter too. Not sure how paint can be harder on one panel than another........

I hand wash most of the year and only touchless wash in the cold winter months. I do clay my 997.2 in the spring for a thorough clean up after the winter months since my 2009 C4S do get a workout in blizzards and other nasty conditions. After 81K miles the Porsche paint is pretty tough! Actually I am looking possibly to purchasing a Macan Turbo to supplement my C4S and this SUV is sweet!

Yes I do get the "WTF" look a lot during the winter months, and when asked why I simply tell them it is more fun driving it than stare at it in the garage.
