What have been your maintenance issues for your Maserati?

I've been thinking about getting a Spyder for sometime now...seems like the economical way of having the Ferrari experience. I am very familiar with what kind of nightmare maintenance can be for Ferrari 360 Modenas. Are Maseratis just as bad? Any reoccurring maintenance issues or significant $ repairs needed on cars under 50,000 miles? Share your experiences

+1, I am contemplating whether or not to purchase the GranTurismo. Want to know prevalent problems with the car; electrical, transmission, etc. Thanks in advance.

Army Porsche - reconsider your decision about the Maserati Spyder. VERY maintenance intensive. Example - convertible top motors with labor $1435. Replace 2 belts and a 6 inch of hose $695. The Spyder is a great car to drive, but the cost to me was not worth it.

Good feedback. I'm more concerned with drivetrain maintenance though. I'm expecting the top to be expensive if issues arise...have already been through that with a SL500. How about transmission, clutch, engine issues? Do they wear as fast as they do on Ferraris, and has the maintenance been as expensive for those of you who've had both?

I was not having any problems when I traded the car with 38,000 miles on it. But, I did ask and was told that it would cost $135 an hour to drop the transmission, and depending what they found it could be anywhere up to $6500 for a new clutch assembly. So having heard that they can go bad very easily I deceided to trade. I have always been a Jaguar person. I wanted the XK-R but was more than I wanted to pay so bought the XF.

The CambioCorsa trans (F1) will need a new clutch at about 20-30k miles. $4-5k
Drivers power window assembly often tear themselves apart from use. $1k
Upholstery is very fragile especially light colors.

Well being a former Maserati Technicial I can tell you that I am a big fan of the pre QP cars . And the F1 trans is a great trans, it depends on how you treat it tho. I would be wrong to say that every Maserati F1 needs a clutch at 20k. Ive seen cars with double the mileage that were on there stock clutch. I saw more issue with the F1 pump and relay than anything eles on that car. 40% of the check engine lights that came in were loose gas caps and all but , i would say 20% were simple repairs and services. If I had the money an 05 grand sport would be in my garage (Supercharged Of Course!!! ). Good luck and if you need any thing on the performance end please call of e-mail, Patrick@PES-Tuning.com
