I'll let you in on a little secret (2 actually).
1) I am trying to get rid of my 542Rs to get a set of 841R or 847R
2) There is an apparent problem with HRE wheels that no one seems to mention...wheneveryou wash the car, the inside of the wheel holds water and leaves spots that will not come out even with a good metal polish!! Read here for more info - http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...threadid=30136

Hey guys, thanks for the compliments. yes, they are the 843's I had the 540R's and loved them also. I wanted a new look, and took a gamble on these, they are the first sets made for a turbo.
The wheels are polished lips with brushed finish and clear coated centers. The inner hubs have been hard anodized black.
I don't have a problem with water spots, I use compressed air to blow out the water from the lips and crevices. If I do get some water spots, I just hit the spot with a air driven die grinder and a closed canton buff and compound and high shine it with an air driven slow speed drill motor with some alloy compound and high shine polish compund with an open canton bufffing wheel. It's actually easier to maintain this way than doing it by hand, and the finish looks much nicer. But you have to becareful using the air tools.
I would suggest the clear coat on the lips if concerned about the water spots. It won't have the hard shine, but it will be easier to maintain.

Oak,
What size lips are you running?? I have 2" front 4" rear on order, you front doesn't look like 2 to me though. Man me finding your car has made my wheel choice quite a bit harder
. I am thinking maybe a compramise and doing the 845R's
. The more I look at it, the more I like the clean look of the hidden bolts. I plan on maybe eventually showing the car also, and I think the 8series are better for this.
Decisions decisions

Evan, I know what you mean about the clean and simple look of the 8 series. After coming from the 540R's which are also awsome, I thought the less busy look of the 8 series would compliment the very simple and clean silhouette of 996tt. I felt at times the 540R's were abit overwhelming for the turbo.
These are the 2 and 4 inch lips. The lips are measured from the inside flange where the centers are fastened.
Either way, I don't think you can go wrong with either wheels.
Sorry to make your decision difficult.
