Post Autozeitung: M6 vs 996 Turbo S

The M6 is FAST! But the 996 Turbos S is slightly faster....Phew!

Note that the Corsa is r-compound tire.

Corsa System is standard on the M6 & it's the 3rd production car that use it as OE tire after Stradale & GT3 RS. it's semi-track tire.

Take away the hole shot launches from a standing start, which is so variable depending on driver skill and always an advantage to the Turbo's AWD, and just looking at " freeway grand prix " type rolling acceleration where the " race " would occur from 60-120 mph ( 100-200 kph ) and the M6, like the M5 , is faster than a Turbo S by 0.2 to 0.3 seconds .
In other words, how often will an M6 be at the drag strip with a Turbo S next to it, compared to running alongside on the freeway in say, Socal ?
It's a tribute to the BMW M division that the mag editors keep throwing the luxury M6 and M5 against sports cars like 996 Turbos and 997S . You don't see serious matchups between the Turbo S and a CL 55 , for instance, which is what an M6 should be comped against by market segments .
If aiming straight ahead " racing" were all that mattered, though, then MBZ dealers used car lots would be in possession of thousands of Turbos, Gallardos,360s, etc., all traded in for SL CL and S 65s , right?

Way faster, yeah to 30mph, but at about 100-110mph the M6 has evened out the 996TTS. And from a roll they are even or the M6 is a touch faster. Not too shabby for a 2200Kg car.

Have a look at the track time It think that is what jaewoo0
is trying to say.

Well the Turbo S had ceramic brakes, but the Pirelli Corsas will make a bigger difference.

The M6 is 1710kg, not 2200kg. Also it is 95lbs lighter than the M5 becuase of the carbon roof and some additional alum pieces. There is talk of an M6 CSL which will be much lighter although it is also said it will be a Europe only model like the M3 CSL. Nonetheless, great numbers, love the M6, can't wait!!!!

Also, correct me if I am wrong, but, the M6 lapped the ring in just under the magic 8 min barrier. That's impressive for a car that will seat 4 and weighs 3762lbs

Nope, it's about 10 seconds faster than the M5 according to BMWs test drivers.

So just above 8 mins.

Perhaps Mr Stuck can drive it under 8 mins, but sport auto is a better reference.

also consider the price, it won't be as bad as a Turbo S
