Worth it to get a used SL500?

Hi, I'm looking into purchasing a used SL500 between the years 2003-2006. Are there any changes scheduled for this model in the near future? I heard something that the SL will get a facelift on the 09 model which is scheduled to come out in Fall 08. Will this change be pretty substantial? I like to get the latest looking model and want to know if I'll be clear on this for the next few years. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated!

yep major facelift for the SL:

http://www.worldcarfans.com/6070521....major-facelift

not a very good one either, kinda funked up BMW looking - i see you are also interested in a 6-series, i would say stay away from that one, being it one of the ugliest cars ever built imo - its a german camaro, exact dimensions of a camaro... go fig

i would say go with an SL55 or if you can put the buck down i would NEVER pass up an SL65... supercar all the way

SL500 will seem kinda weak i suppose, not enough muscle, the SL55 has the muscle and are not that much more expensive then a 500 or 550, and the changes they have seen from 03-current have been minor, with an 08 receiving a boost in hp and tq. and a bit of a facelift in 07 with a new 3 dashed grill vs. 4 dash, new front bumper, and a clear stripe in the tail lights also 05 got a DVD based navi... CD based sucks

Stay away from 03s.

Get as newer year as you can. The newer the better, mileage is not a big factor, unless it is over 75K.

Good Luck!

I am thinking about selling my 2003 SL55 AMG. The car is loaded and is Silver/charcoal interior and black wood trim. The car currently has 22k miles has been recently serviced it is completely stock including AMG turbo fan Wheels. I have never tracked the car, so it remains unmolested. I would be happy to give you more information if you have an interest.

I would search for a 55. I borrowed my buddys SL500 for a while, and I found it sort of boring compared to my CLS55.

Ditto.
I've seen them come in for service in droves.
Don't do it unless it has a certified warranty.

Do it! Again, ext. warranty for sure. Expect to drive a c230 loaner approximately every 3-4 months depending your SL.

Hi there Buckeye-
I'm responding to your post regarding your interest in a Mercedes SL500. I have a 2004 SL 500 w/ the AMG package. It is Black on Black w/ most, if not all options that were available. It currently has 13K adult driven miles on it. Car is in pristine condition. The best part of it all, it has an extended warranty. 100K/ 6yr. and from what I recall, MY2004 was the last year Mercedes included the maintenance program. I see that you're located in Los Angeles, and if this is something you might be interested in, I can be reached via email @dm-park@hotmail.com or on my mobile ph.310.985.2681 for more information on the car. Thanks for taking the time to read this and hope to hear from you soon. Thanks

Danny
