Remove the resonators is a cheap option. Renntech, Supersprint, Eisenmann all make great exhausts. I would also get a set of headers to finish it, they add quite the sound!

If you are looking for power, I would say dont do it. If you just want sound, you will notice a difference!

Ive seen real gains on an E63, stock versus Renntech headers and mufflers, no ECU tune, same day install. If you just want sound, removing the resonators will add a little more growl. You will also lose power with them, I know a couple sources that say the same. Resonators remove the resonance in the exhaust, and you lose exhaust velocity, which means you lose power.

Renntech headers or Kleemann, both are great , remove the charcoal filters and drop in some bmc's, go for the tune which you header supplier provides, sport primary 200 cell catalytics and a VRUS X pipe to remove the resonator.

I dont think removing the resonator will result in a lose of horsepower, that is common on the M113 Evo engines which are 55K available on the CLS55 and E class.

Resonators absorb energy and slow down exhaust (very slightly). You don't lose power by removing resonators, especially on an NA motor.

I should have been more specific in the words I used.

Resonators dont actually absorb energy, but cancel it. They use sound cancellation, by using 2 sound waves to lessen or cancel their energy (if you guys remember science or physics, you know this). Glasspacks use sound absorbing materials.

Resonators are a restriction, and they keep the exhaust velocity higher. Remove them and lose some torque, but gain more mid-high range power. On the M156 engine, I would think keeping torque would be a good thing.
