lots of them on Ebay and other car sale sites.

PLEASE do yourself a favor and take one for an extended test drive. I had one for about 5 weeks and HATED it. I put it on ebay just to dump it, but wound up making a profit on it.

THE SMART SUCKS. TRUST ME.

I agree, the Smart is horrible to drive. I took one for a test drive (mum was looking for a new car) and the delay in the gearbox made it downright dangerous, not to mention the lack of power, a dog could outrun it.

Do yourself a favour and get a small VW or something, the Smart is absolute rubbish!

Thank you guy,but my main worrie about the smart has always been safety it just looks so damn small that a small wind can knock it down.True?

The Smart is an incredibly safe car. The complaints about the gearbox is because of the fact that is actually a manual/automatic, in that it is a true 5spd manual with an electronically actuated clutch mechanism (done by magnets). This is why you feel the slippage/hesitation.

As for any modded Smart cars, don't change the wheels FYI. They are integrated into the safety system of the car and are an integral part during crash testing. They are much, much, much safer than you would imagine. The amount of tech that has gone into these are amazing, just don't expect it to be the best car EVER. It's just a new way of thinking about the automobile.

The only reason I know this and more: my good friend is 1 of 3 Smart Tech Trainers in the country.

It performs well in crash tests, but I can definitely confirm that a strong wind makes it VERY unstable at freeway speeds. Any gust over 40-50mph just blows the SMART all over the road.

And with respect to the crash testing, even though the safety cell holds solid up to 60mph crashes, the car simply cannot defy the laws of physics. The energy from a crash has to be absorbed or dissapated somehow, and the SMART is simply too small to do this. Basically, the entire force of the crash will be absorbed by the occupants instead of the vehicle, thus causing possible massive organ damage.
