picking up my C63, should I break in?
Just picked of 2010 E63 Performance Pack. Dealer said, "engine is broken in......sport differential, however needs to be broken in........" Not over 4500 rpm, varying rpms, 1000 miles..... blah, blah.........
However my 911: Dealer said "....Car is broken in. Break in period is to get YOU acquainted with the car......"

I don't really follow the factory break-in procedures. I just make sure to vary the RPM's as much as possible. I might take it easy for the first 100-200 miles just to get acquainted with the car.
In my opinion only a forced induction car needs to be broken in.

I follow the break in periods and I feel like they run better when you do? BUT that I also feel like my car runs better when its clean...so maybe Im weird. Honestly though, I feel like I have driven other exact high performance models of my cars over the years and mine were faster...sometimes too on break in its a little tempting. Im not saying I dont go over the RPMS a little but mostly I stay under the RPM's, I dont flat out floor it for long periods of time, and I vary the engine traveling speeds on the highway. Thats about it. Then right when the wait is over I give it hell!!!!
ive never seen an amg motor fail from improper break-in. If it were mine id go drive it the way you are going to drive it. If its going to fail, might as well have it fail sooner then later. Only amg enigne failures ive seen are improper repair/assembly (I've ony seen one factory built motor fail, a 63amg motor that failed due to a incorrectly installed cam adjuster- im sure "hans" got his *** chewed for that 80$k for longblock), hydro-locking- look geman engineers made my car clearly it can float too, maint. neglect lets not change my, untuned modifications-supercharger pulley and header. Ive never broken in any of my cars and they've never had an internal engine problem.
Follow procedure, and if you're too busy at the moment I'm sure I speak for a lot of forum members in that we'd all be willing to pitch in and take a shift or two to help you get the break-in perid finished in record time!
sounds like a personal choice but i dont think it hurts to follow the break-in procedure. i've always followed typical break-in procedure. (vary rpm, speed, etc...increase them as you put more miles in)
