Hey, All
I just ran across this group. What a great resource of knowledge and information! I have attached a photo and the data sheet for the vehicle. I am not the original owner of the vehicle but was told that the car had every available option. I did notice that the build sheet for the vehicle indicates that the paint color is Chromit Black Metallic Paint (112U). The car is definitely blue and I am certain that it has not been repainted. Anybody ever see this happen? Is the car missing any options? Thank you in advance for any thoughts. 2008 Mercedes Benz SL55 AMG
Great to hear from you. Some of these MBZ color names can be deceptive and can look different in different lighting, but yours does look quite blue in the photo. Here is a link to the 2008 Dealer Ordering Guide, which shows all the colors and options (https://mybenzguy.com/DOG/2008/SL-Class_my08.pdf). You might want to invest in a paint meter (not expensive on Amazon) and take some paint thickness readings, to look for variations and thickness, which would be a clue to a repaint. On my car at least, there is not much variation across the whole car.
The good news is that 112 Chromit Black, also known as Majestic Black is pretty rare. It was a new color for 2008. Your car is one of 3 P30s (all in US) in 112 Chromit/ 215 Beige. It is 1 of 7 P30s world-wide. The other 4 have black interiors. As for options, it has 2 out of the 3 main options (415 Pano roof and 220 Parktronic). It does not have the 219 Distronic adaptive cruise control. The build sheet also lists option 820 Vehicles for Tourist, which means that some lucky soul took delivery of the car in Germany and then spent nearly 3 months (difference between Release Date and Delivery Date) bombing the German Autobahns, no doubt testing the 300km/h raised speed limiter, before returning the car to MBZ and having it shipped stateside. Some people have all the fun!
Wow, Vlad, thanks for all of the great information. I will take your advice and purchase a paint meter. The color sure looks a lot more like the Capris Blue (359) than the Majestic Black (112). Whether black or blue, the car sure is a hoot to drive!
Hey, Vlad
Is there a way to direct message you? I left you a message on your visitor page but have not heard back. I just have a few more questions if you would be so kind! Thanks, Herb
Just came across a Red/Black P30 on Craigslist in NY. 45k miles, asking $26,500. VIN checks out as a P30. Maybe seller doesn't know what he's got. Only downside- it has the regular SL55 wheels rather than the split rims.
What year is it? Do you have a Craigslist link? I can't see it.
Anyone else out there with a 2006-2007-2008 P30 optioned SL55? Would love to connect with other owners.
hi Vlad, John here from British Columbia. Just to let you know my health circumstances have forced me to contemplate selling my white 2007 SL 55 AMG P30. Let me know if you know of anyone who’d like one.
i had included pictures of mine on this thread I think.
This car is now for sale. I have babied it and have spent thousands maintaining it. My health is failing and my wife has asked me to sell it. 2nd owner, car commissioned spring 2008, i have all maintenance receipts since new, window sticker, two keys, new tires, valve cover gaskets, transmission module, engine control unit, all lubricants changed and maintained, new brakes, 42,000 miles, spark plugs(12) ceramic coating, ABC pump, services up to date, car cover, ejector flush, recent batteries, the list goes on.
John, so sad to hear about your health issues. I suspect old age will catch up with all of us sooner or later. I am not aware of anyone looking for a P30 right now, but I am sure you will find interest in what is a very attractive car. I just looked through this thread and don't see any of the photos that used to be here of any of our cars. Not sure if 6SpeedOnline takes them down after some amount of time. So, you should repost some recent photos. If I hear of anyone interested, I will point them your way.
