New GL purchase

I made a deal over the phone to purchase a GL450 and I was all ready to go down to pick it up tonight because the dealership was supposed to do a dealer trade to get the car. As luck would have it, there is a deal pending on the car that was located.

I could not find a Premier Edition anywhere so the next best thing is a GL that is fully loaded without the PEs running boards or 20" wheels. Othewise, the car is the same and actually has keyless go which the PE does not. I guess the convenience of keyless go is worth not having the running boards or wheels.

Hopefully the deal will fall through and I'll get a call in the morning to come and pick it up. Anyways, here are the specs.

Black/Black
P1: Premium I
Cargo Net

Parktronic
Power Front Seats and Steering Column with Memory
Autodimming, Power Folding Mirrors
Rear Audio Controls
DVD Navigation
SIRIUS Satellite Radio
harman/kardon Sound System
Power Tailgate
R55 Appearance Package
19" Wheels
Stainless Steel Skid Plates Front and Rear
320 Entertainment Package
Rear Audio Controls
SIRIUS Satellite Radio
harman/kardon Sound System
324 Sunroof Package
Glass Sunroof
Power Rear Quarter Windows
Keyless Go
3-Zone Climate Control
Class IV Trailer Hitch
Wood/Leather Steering Wheel
Rear-Seat Entertainment
Multicontour Seats
Bi-Xenon Curve-Illuminating Headlamps and Heated Headlamp Washers
Leather Upholstery with Burl Walnut Wood Interior Trim and Interior Ambient Lighting

If the car is sold, I may have to go back to looking at an Escalade.

You know if you wait another month, the back up camera will be available. I have one being built in August loaded just like the one you have incoming but including the back up camera. Also White/Tan

A guy on MBforum.org was able to add a backup camera to his. I'm on my 4th Suburban sized SUV anyways so I'm used to backing up blind.

My wife's S500 has keyless go and you really get used to it. The downside is that sometimes I valet the car and forget to give them the key. The worst thing that happens quite often is that I don't drive the car much so I don't carry a key for it. When I do drive it, it's usually with my wife in the passenger seat so she has her key in her purse and everything is cool. BUT sometimes if we go somewhere and parking is limited, I will drop her off with the key/transponder IN HER PURSE!!! Then I end up being really screwed because the car will stay running but I can't restart it or even lock it! Despite those problems, I still like the convenience.

Why not a Cayenne S, Cayenne Turbo or Range Rover?

The GL has 3 rows of seats and is a good replacement for my Denali XL. My wife has already decided that she wants a Cayenne S or Cayenne Turbo so that's next on the agenda.

Controlit: There aren't any special leases or even holdbacks that I am aware of on the GL but they are running specials on lightly optioned C, ML and E class cars.

It's not looking too good, I haven't heard from the dealership yet. My guess is that the dealership that has the car will try to play the "if you don't buy it, someone is waiting for it" card with the people that have a deal pending.

Ur wife has good taste. Isnt it better to just order the car exactly how u want it instead of just settling... I think that the 2month wait is worth it, especially if u have a 997 to keep you busy

They only made 750 Premier Editions and I believe there aren't any available. At least I was unable to locate any. From what I understand, even when they were available, dealerships did not dealer trade them or discount them.

Update:

Just got a call from the dealership. The deal with the other customer did not go through. However, the dealership that has the car is reluctant to do a dealer trade. Now my dealership is negotiating with them to see if there is anything else they want. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. I added further pressure to my dealership by telling them that I wanted the car before Sat so I could take it out of town for the 4th.

Interesting pic

Visualize this without the black wheels and rectangular exhaust tips! Hopefully this will be my new work car .
