How to pick an AMG

I see there's some confusion here on how to pick an AMG. Here's a simple formula I use:

1. Pick a body style that works for you (coupe, sedan, roadster, etc).
2. With the selected body style, select the lightest and fastest car (most fun!). Here's a chart to help:

sl 65 will beat the slr from a roll. slr is equiped with better tires and a killer bad **** traction control. i've riden in both. dont forget the clk 55, soon to be 63. Ml 63 and R63 (haha) what a joke.ive never seen one of those in person

Sure, see updated chart above. E55 and E63 are nearly identical (E63 will walk it slowly over 120). SL55 is slower. Weight makes a big difference in the sporty feel. I drove an SL65 and its weight made it feel kind of boring to own for a sporty car. I suppose someone would choose an SL65 over a 997TT simply because of the SL65's luxury, comfort, style and prestige.

Thanks for the update! i picked the SL55 mainly becuase i was tired of stick in chicago (city), no where to REALLY open it up, became uncomfortable after a bit and whatnot - the SL55 imo was a great move, and top down in the summer is priceless - MB kinda has a stigma as for being for trhe older but im in my early 20's and i love the car - the SL65, sounds on paper... insane

It didn't. See my updated chart. The E63 is a little heavier (Car & Driver says 80 lbs heavier). It's hard to get accurate weight numbers. Car & Driver is measuring about 200 lbs more than Mercedes publishes.

They are very close based on Car & Driver tests and other tests I've seen. The SLR is faster simply because it weighs an amazing 700 lbs less than the SL65. That SL65 is pretty darn heavy!
