LOL, yesterday I bought two 2gig CF cards. when you shoot in raw at 10+ megapixels, it's only 77 shots per card. also, the damn batteries are back ordered. i can't find them anywhere. they better be here before i go to maui. lastly, i picked up a timed remote (Nikon MC-36). i'm going to mess around and do some time-elapsed stuff this weekend.

is it the same battery as the d50?

if it is just use the spare battery your giving me until your new one arrives...

the d200 takes a new battery which is slotted so the old d50 battery won't fit. it also wouldn't work because it only has 2 prongs instead of 3. however, the new d200 battery that i'm searching for will also fit the d50, d70s, d80.

I really want to get a D200 but I read somewhere that they removed the ability to shoot in RAW mode, is this correct? I.E. You can only shoot in JPEG mode? I need a camera that can capture without any compression, usually into TIFF format.

Can you check your D200 Kram and let me know?

Yes, you are correct, I remember now. The RAW images from the D200 are stored in their own proprietary format (NEF) instead of the universal TIFF format. This means you have to use Nikon's software to read the RAW files which is a pain. I.E. If saving RAW for the best quality, I can't take the memory card and put it into a photo printer because no printer will recognize the NEF format. This is just one example, basically you now need to process each RAW picture in Nikon's own software to be able to use the picture with any other program, thus adding a time consuming step.

I have a D100 which is what the D200 is replacing and the D100 saves directly into RAW TIFF. I hate when they make changes to follow-on models that reduces functionality. If the D200 saved into TIFF i would have scrapped my D100 a while ago. Now I have to go to their D2X professional model to get this function.
