Intersport ripoff???
Intersport ripoff???
Is it me(I must look like a sucker) or is Intersport in Tysons out to rip us off?
When I first went to get quotes for full exhaust system install they tried to quote me for a 6-7 hour job for around $700+ then I went there to get a quote to have springs installed that I bought already and they quoted me $1350 w/alignment.
I asked 2 other places including Curry's for springs install and they quote was around $700-800 w/alignment.Also, I had my full exhaust done at Curry's for around $500+. So whats wrong with that picture? Does Intersport have knowledable techs and everyone else are morons?

I don't know if they are ripping you off. I did have some work done there. I recall it was on the high side.
For lowering springs on your car, consider the following:
- Springs are harder to do than coilovers
- HBL next block over charges 12 hours to do springs (they did mine) without alignment. Given their rates, that's about $1400. An interesting aside--when HBL finished lowering my car, the car was so low that they could not align it with their machine (at least not without a lot of hassles), so they outsourced the alignment to Intersport, who unfortunately did not do it properly.
- I don't about Curry's, but I know Intersport has at least one or two Porsche master techs who probably get paid more than your average tech and who will know Porsches a lot better
- The alignment machines these two shops use could be different which could drive a difference in price.

I think I paid my Porsche tech $500 to install my springs on my Turbo. He's no longer at HBL, but if you're willing to make a drive out to Harrisonburg or Charlottesville Porsche, he'll do the work for you I'm sure. I think he said it actually ONLY takes about 4 hours.
Did they quote you on a 996 or a 997? B/C I know that 996's are more hours than a 997. The reason is because it is easier to take the shocks off of a 997 than a 996. You don't have to take off all the longer control arm links and tie rod links to get the shock out of the car with a 997 as opposed to a 996.
When my springs were installed at Intersport, all the sway bars were disconnected and they set the ride height/rake. Then they corner balanced the car on scales w/ my weight in to account (which is significant....
). Then, I know Intersport usually does a true four wheel alignment to be even with camber and toe. These guys have some of the fastest 996's in Porsche Club racing and based on their experience they relay their racing experience for street cars.
I did some research as well last summer and the quote I got from Curry's was about $1,000+ with no corner balance. I went to Intersport based on positive rec's from co-workers and friends who have gotten their cars done there before. They've done all the work on my car and are always there to help. I hope this helps......sorry for your experience.

I believe Intersport do have better tech than Currys. Have you called IMA, Funktion and ASG? Also, just for an alignment, nothing beats Funktion. They have the state of the art machine and I'm there only for that. ASG for some other stuff because main tech and the owner, Jeff, is one of the most knowledgeable GT3 tech I've ever met. And, he always over do what it needs to be done without over charging, which always leave me impressed.

yah, I've gotten pretty good rates there. I had my gt2 decklid wing painted & installed, plus my techart exhaust tips welded on for around $700 total.
Ask for Dogan, see what he can do for you on the price. By the way, suspension work is the most outrageous cost on these cars. I paid around $1250 to have my PSS9's installed at Currys. And thats without a corner balance.

I will tell you the coils are a pain in the ***, took Sean 996, KJ and I over 8hrs, but we are relative novices.
Exhaust is 4hrs at most. Not that hard really just heavy and the straps are a pain in the ***, I bet someone good could do it in 3.

Call Marcin at Airport Automotive... 443-562-4477... He has done all the work to my 997 and Cayenne and his quotes are literally half price of everyone else... great work too... shop is in Elkridge, MD
Didn't you get some work done by Lee at Motomodz? I think he closed up for a bit but heard he is moving the shop to Owings Mills. I might give Marcin a call for some exhaust work soon.
Marcin is a good friend of mine and he's done all the work on my 997... Give him a call he will take care of you...
I just talked to Marcin. He sounds like a good guy. He is going to stay late one evening to do some exhaust work for me since I get off work around the time he closes. I mentioned your name to him when I called. Thanks for the lead.
