Ever get a "bad feeling"?
Ever get a "bad feeling"?
Yesterday, coming back from the FoW exotic car show, My business partner in the passenger seat, we're rolling down Rt.29 south from Warrenton, Va. in my Porsche Twin Turbo... I noticed coming up from behind was a Mustang, looked to be one of the 2008-2009 Rousch jobs in Orange and Black. He was rolling pretty quick, and it was a 60MPH zone... So he pulls up to me and hammers it, and I roll on the throttle and pace him... We get in a little traffic and I let him go for a little bit... Reel him in from about of ARREST you speeds... And we get an open stretch of road... He hammers the car, and I'm still in 6th gear, half throttle and just suck up to his rear bumper... We're doing triple didgets, and I'm still part throttle, mayber pulling .4bar of boost, killing about 22mpg, and this fool is just running his 'Stang for all it's worth... I lift and coast down to "legal" speeds and let him go, and my buddy Barry says "I thought you was going to drop a couple gears and go around him, what's up?"
I told him "I have a very bad feeling"... Sure as shyte... This fool rolls up on a police car half a mile past when I lift and slow...
Call it 6th sense, or whatever the hell you want, but when you get that feeling, DO NOT ignore it. I don't know why I got that "hair standing up on the back of your neck" feeling, but I did... Glad I paid attention.

Mike,
I had a great track day, without any incedints. There was a F40 out there and he drove it like he stole it. On the way back home, on route 7, a 80's Mustang GT pulls up beside me and does the hesitate and gun it move. I almost bit but decided against it, to many places for cops to set up. Nothing happened but, I still listen to that feeling.

I've learned to trust my first instinct.

I've done that a time or two on Route 7. That one big strait is just too tempting.
Mike / Chris,
Oooooo, I know that feeling. It's like your sixth sense, guardian angel, or instinct that just tells you not to roll, not to bite, kick it back........
That instinct saved my life (and my wife's) a few years back. We were driving home from a holiday party in Upper Marlboro @ my wife's friend's house. For some reason that night, I did not want to drink anything, I was just not in to it, but usually, I'll have at least one or two with friends when I drive over the course of a few hours (when not driving, different consumption levels of course....:he he he), anyway, we were on our way home in the Boxster I had at the time (ECU'd, PSE, PSS9's, etc etc, mostly used for track, not a beast by any means, but had some pep to it). Anyway, we crossed over the Wilson Bridge on our way home to Kingstowne Alexandria (right at the Van Dorn exit). When crossing the bridge, we were in the third of the four lanes (right side) when passing route 1. We saw a honda swerving a bit in front of us and clearly was a drunk driver. Now, he's in front of us, then in the second lane (from left), is an 18 wheeler that he's slowly gaining on to pass on the right. The rig was about 10 cars ahead in that second lane......I had an oppy to go down a few gears and punch it when we were around the eisenhower ave exit......amazingly, my wife, who never says to pass said why don't you pass him and I looked in the lanes to my left (2 of them) and they seemed clear at the time, but my instinct said to just stay and stay behind him (safest place to be w/ a drunk driver). As I was thinking not to go, the next thing I feel before I see is an explosion......another drunk driver in a Tahoe RAMMED and I mean RAMMED in to the back of the 18 wheeler from no where (he was slying so fast and I wouldn't have seen him). Blue in to a fireball then crossed across the first lane from the initial impact in to the jersey barrier on 495.......that, is exactly where my wife and I would have been had I:
1.) Drank something (even one beer) that night you know giving you that extra ounce of confidence that could have been a bad move
2.) Listened to my wife for the first time ever and actually tried to pass the initial drunk driver
3.) Not listened to my instincts and just tried to pass on my own will.....
Life is weird in many ways and I believe we all have a higher power watching after us........I am grateful for today, what I have experienced in the past and what I will experience in the future w/ health and happiness.......
Everyone be safe out there always!!!

My car will top out above 205MPH, and it gets there in a hurry, so I pay attention when fools want to play... Guys who go to jail wonder why I do so many track days!

Last week I was buzzing south on 270. I saw a work zone ahead at an overpass. I dialed it down and got out of the fast lane. There was a state trooper in the shadows of the overpass - mixed in with the construction equipment running laser.
Never assume....
