Glass repair

Hey guys,

I got a crack on my windshield yesterday when I was coming back from inspection (Cayenne S). The chip isn't that big but the cracks around the chip is bigger than a quarter. Can this be fixed or does this need to be replaced? If I remember correctly, you can fix rock chips on the windshield but I am not sure. I also need to replace the windshield for my other car (Frontier). Does anyone recommend a particular person/company? I can think of several body shops but I thought I should ask here first.

Also, I'd prefer someone coming over to my house and do the job but I don't mind traveling either as long as they are located around metro area.

Thanks!

I have had my windshield replaced by Safelite Autoglass several times with multiple cars. They do a great job. If you have insurance, they cover the cost of the glass. If the crack is no more than the size of a $1 bill, then you do not have to replace the windshield and they can patch it. They patched mine and I can't even find where it is unless I really look closely. If they have to replace the windshield then you'll most likely have to pay the deductible. Mine is $100 w/ my insurance carrier. Good Luck.

Safelite will either come to your house or you can go to one of their centers. They are just about everywhere.

Diamond Glass had my P windshield next day. SO I scheduled a 2fer. Cause I busted my wifes by accident. Great pro install at my house. They also do insurance work at a couple of body shops I know of. They have always told me if the spider crack is larger than a quarter, you won't get a guarantee on the repair.

thank you guys.
my deductible is 1250 so it's out of my pocket.
i will call them tomorrow if not today.

the crack on the frontier is like...4 ~5 feet long (curved and across the windshield). I am guessing that has to be replaced.

thanks!!!

Double check your insurance. Your Comprehensive coverage may have a different deductible than your Collision coverage.

nope, i checked mine and i am not covered. i know it's like $200 or something but i dont have that coverage.

for some reason, safelite is charging more than local nissan dealer for replacement. it seems like i will be going through windshield city in chantily (wise crack mike only does repair. he redirected me to mike from windshield city.).

the porsche...the crack is too big (quarter size+) so it might have to be replaced (according to wise crack mike). he did say that he can make it better but he cant guarantee that it's going to look a lot better.

boochook, how big were your chips/cracks? they were quoting me 110+tax for a single crack, which is twice as much as wise crack mike so i told them that i will call back.

Dealers and body shops call these same guys. Thats why they will mark up and quote higher. Whether you call or the dealer calls, there aren't usually any breaks in the windshield industry since they are direct to everyone.
