Arrow Mid-Atlantic (MD/DC/VA) Investment Discussion Group

Mid-Atlanticers,

Any folks interested in forming an investment "DISCUSSION" group. No plans of pooling money together and investing of sort really, I'm just looking to start a discussion group to learn more about alternative types of investing outside of the simple 401k, Roth, Stocks, savings plan, etc. Ideally, having our baby boy, makes me want to be even MORE aggressive in planning my wealth accumulation. I'm investing/saving fairly aggressively, but find that if I speak with "STRANGERS" in the financial world, their intention is to sell me something they get paid strong commissions on, whereas, friends alike, we can speak openly to learn more about the pros and cons of each type of investment based on age, risk aversity, goals, etc. For instance, I'd like to learn more about Whole vs. Term Life Insurance, etc. I have Life Insurance through work at 6x my pay (max allowance from the company unfortunately), so I'd like to learn even more about how to gain even MORE wealth.

Bottom line, I'd like to not only create a SOLID nest egg, but also an annuity of recurring income (whether through rental income, interest, or any other form of continuous income) to bequeath to my family. I don't want to be someone who saves up for almost 50 years of my life for a 401k that I'll exhaust in 20 years......I want to retire early, retire wealthy and honestly give BACK to those less fortunate. My problem is finding folks willing to mentor.

Thanks guys, hopefully, we can make something of this and EVERYONE gains in some way, shape or form.

Berk

I just put my money in a cookie jar. And when it fills up I get another. And when that's full I just start investing in the garage. 997tt, 997.2GT3RS a Lambo or 2. haha. Start something up Berk I could use a lesson or 2 in making my future a better one.

I guess it'd be ok about now, but for some of us that bought 4 to 6 years ago, it's painful

Ken - Agreed. Trying to do that with my current property but like Alex just said, bought it 4 years ago. Working on some "WORK AROUND" though.

Pej - For sure dude, I'll give you a call, we can talk. I'm just open to hearing "OTHER" ideas that folks have had. Always open to hear your suggestions as well.

We won't be doing this on a forum. This will be like a meeting once a month at a coffee shop or something.

Thanks guys!!!

Berk, great idea... I don't mind sharing some of the things I know, though it might not be as great as others not one person has all the answers therefore a few coming together might spark some interest in another and it might just become another person's niche.

Count me in and you know what my plan is in the next few years.

Cheers,
Allen

John - PCar or not buddy, you are ALWAYS welcome bud.

Allen - For sure dude. I completely agree. I think this is a great opportunity for guys to expand upon some of their strategies which may peak interest in other folks "giving it a try of their own" if not sparking their own ideas from thoughts of other folks.

Looks like we have a decent response, so the question is (we don't need to have our CARS per se to meet you guys) would you all like to do this on like a Tuesday or Thursday evening in Tyson's or Reston, or would you like to make this a GTG early mornings (the true investors in the crowd) on weekends like a Saturday or Sunday so we can get back to other activities on the weekend.

I propose something like a Tuesday/Thursday evening at 5:30pm at Starbuck's in Tysons (where we usually meet)

OR

I propose something like a Saturday/Sunday morning at 9AM at Starbuck's in Tyson's (where we usually meet)

Thoughts??????

you guys actually think that im joking. look at ammo prices today vs. 24mo ago.
it is a very liquid asset, you just need a large room to store it.

it would be very very difficult to buy investment properties right now, if you need a mortgage to buy them.

i also dont think that "suckers" are renters in this economy. my primary residence has gone down around 30-35% over the past 24 months.
if i were renting myself, i would have saved around $500k

i own 14 rental properties myself and if i were smart i would have sold my primary and moved into one of the rentals
