Car changes! Very long read.
Car changes! Very long read.
Recently switched up the stable. Ventured into new territory, finally cut ties with an old friend, and ventured back into familiar territory.
I'll try and keep the reviews brief, but cover important points. May be a long read since I am reviewing two cars and covering the cars they replaced. Followed by copious amounts of pictures I took.
First, the new territory: 07 Honda S2000 to a 07 BMW M Coupe.
I've had two different Porsches so far, and never thought I'd sit in a BMW. Not trying to offend anyone, I just never found bimmers to be that pleasing to my eye, and their interiors never really did anything for me either. M3's are dime a dozen, m5's are kinda rare...but the looks still didn't do anyting. Until one day I instantly remembered a car that ALWAYS caught my eye when I saw it: the new M coupe. I did like the "clownshoe" coupe, but I loved the redesign they did with the e86. I never liked the Z4, but even though this M Coupe is based off of the Z4, it really looks great to me. However, the very new Z4's look great (but they're super heavy now!).
My M Coupe replaced the S2000. The S2000 is the "old friend" I referred to. I have had 3 S2000s - 00 Grand Prix White, 00 Berlina Black, and a 07 Silverstone. That should say a lot about S2000s, they really keep you coming back for more. I won't get into details, but there were good reasons I had to get rid of the White and Black ones I had, they had some "issues" due to careless previous owners. But now I am officially "done" with S2000s, I feel like I have graduated. In their price range they are a great choice, but now I'm past that price range.
The M Coupe is definitely perfect replacement to the S2000, a big step up. It's very solid, handles on rails, and most imporantly has very good torque - something S2000 was lacking greatly. It isn't a drop top, but I will get over that. The interior is awesome, I love it. The seats and steering wheel are some of the best I have sat in and used, I absolutely love the steering wheel. The leather doesn't wrinkle easily at all, and it smells pretty good (not Porsche good, though). The engine is great, sounds great (especially without mufflers, teehee). Sport mode makes a huge difference. I normally drive in normal mode due to the Sport mode throttle being quite sensitive, it's just easier to drive around in normal mode. The car is super easy to drift through corners, yes I have done that already and it was amazing fun, it was extremely easy to control and didn't have a volatile "snap steering" feel to it like the S2000 did. It has lots of amenites of a good touring car - multi-point adjustment power seats, 3 levels of heated seats, nav, great leg support that can be adjusted, great cup holders too! All the materials in the interior are very nice, I especially love the headliner. There is ample trunk space which was surprising. Sound system is okay, nothing amazing and could use some more bass - the stock subs are definitely lacking on certain frequencies.
That covers that change. Now to the next change.
03 Porsche 911 Turbo to a 05 Maserati Quattroporte.
Odd change huh? Having two sports cars with no rear seats and no trunk space was starting to annoy me. I just didn't see the point in having 2 sports cars anymore (I actually had 3 at one point, but recently sold my 94 RX7). I wanted a nice luxurious 4 door car that still was fun to drive. I had sooooo many cars in mind: CLS550, C63 AMG, E55 AMG, M5, 7series. I had only test drove a 7 series out of all of those cars. So admittedly, I really didn't give the other cars mentioned a chance....but after driving the Quattroporte and having owned a Cambiocorsa in the past, I knew I just had to have the Quattroporte. The "duo-select" transmission is more fun to drive than a automatic, but not as involving as a manual.
Now why I got rid of the Porsche? Well, again, I don't want to offend anyone but I was starting to see the 996 as a very dated looking car. Whenever I saw a 997tt (even a C2S) I lusted after it, it looked so much better than the 996 body. It started get on my nerves and after a while I just had to give up on the 996. But it was absolutely the fastest car I have ever driven and could easily put a smile on my face. I had ZERO problems with the car, nothing broke, nothing malfunctioned, worked perfectly every single day I had it.
What to say about the Quattroporte? It's exactly what I wanted in a 4 door car. It's fun to drive and does not have that "huge car" feeling to it. It simply doesn't feel like you are driving a big 4 door car. The suspension is great and there is hardly any body roll that you can feel, quite surprising for such a large heavy vehicle (it's 4300 lbs!). It has amenities up the **** (massaging/heated/cooled seats, beverage cooler, privacy screen, adjustable rear seats, dual climate control, auto dimming mirrrors yada yada I can't even remember the rest. It has 400hp/tq so it's got it where it counts kid (bonus pts if you know that reference). No, it's not super fast but it's surprising for how heavy it is - the 911 would put bus...nay....train lengths on it. I like the way when you close the doors it's very quiet in the cabin, you can hardly here any noise outside the car. It's just a super cozy car, and the leather smells great (although I was smelling the 2010 quattroportes in the show room and almost had an orgasm, they smelled amazing.)
Ok now for pics.

The "duo-select" transmission is more fun to drive than a automatic, but not as involving as a manual.
Briefly: The transmission in the Quattroporte is a manual transmission with a computer controlled clutch that changes gears and shifts for you (via a pump) as you select gears via paddles. You cannot stall the car, you do not operate the clutch. However, the principles of gas peddle pressure do apply whilst changing gears and you really need to be cognisant of it to increase the life of the clutch.
I did like the options in the CLS550, they are very nicely equipped in their price range and are very close in HP to the QP, it was a very close contender. I didn't want the 7 series because I already have the M Coupe, I need some variety

Congrats...love your taste in cars. The M-Couple looks mean and ready for business. The QP is a classic. It will go down as one of the all-time greats. I have a 2009 QP in exactly the same wheel/exterior/interior colour combo.
Ignore opinions from anyone who has had a Toyota Camry (the worlds most BORING car), they generally lack taste. Porsche is for boys, Maserati is for Men.
Enjoy them both...nice choice!

Great choices!!! Love the QP. I'm also going through some thoughts. Just not sure yet what to get. Thinking of replacing my C4S with a Z06. Granted the C4S is twin turbo'd and love it, really considering taking it up to the next level and twin turbo'ing a Z06. :-0
Congrats on the cars. Both are at the top of my list, I've always loved the look of the Mcoupe and the Quattroporte has been one of my favorite sedans for years. Probably the most epic interior of any car I've seen.

BERK don't go 'vette dude they are cool but stick with the porsche.
I love the Z4 coupes. I was a fan of the //M Z3 coupes as well and came close a couple of times, but I'll now keep what I've got. I've got too much knowledge invested, I can practically take it apart blindfolded and if I get bored of power I'll just go to the next level.
Maserati is an awesome choice for a 4 door, that interior is probably like putting on a leather coat.
