VA Inspection

To all of you who reside in VA, honestly how bad/difficult is the annual car inspection?

Do they frown upon modified cars etc...

You mean like one's that dont have any front turn signals!? LOL

Maybe you need to find the right inspector who will appreciate the cool factor.

Precisely Cliff, also when are you fixing the blinking speed issue?
Only alternative would be to sell the Exige and pick up something else...

I have never had an issue with my car passing inspections or emissions. It's far from heavily modified (just headers/exhaust/lower/cosmetic) and the things that 'could' be illegal (ie. cutouts and HID (my low beams are HID and don't switch off when you go to high beams), have not been an issue with me.

I have taken it to the same local spot for the past 7 years. They know the car and always laugh when it comes back to them the following year with less than a 7000 mile difference from the previous year. If something is near the fail mark (ie, brakes they'll tell me and I'll get it fixed.

... But that's just my experience.

OK not talkin about general motor vehicle ****-ism but net-net tax perspective (esp for prop owners) VA is far less burdensome than commie MD (i.e. the heavily tax payer subsidized Balt. GP I know we all enjoyed.... Can you say "re-elect da mayor cuz da race cars be slammin'").

Should be readily ascertainable - ask your cpa, total tax burden you are way better off in VA....... just don't get wrapped up in a motor vehicle violation, but that goes if you are domiciled in VA or not.

The inspection regulations are pretty illicit, how literal everything is taken resides in the hands of the individual inspector. I personally have had completely varying experiences. The most important part is that the technician respects the car and doesn't try to get carried away with pretending they know what's going on...in your case putting it on a lift incorrectly. I recommend getting in contact with a service shop you trust and work with them, they'll have an inspection source that's experienced and cautious around the cars.

I think that "CollaudatoreSV" has it right on. I believe that getting to know a shop, repeat business, helps. I haven't had any nightmares due to overzelous inspectors.

Chris
