Talking Total Newbie

Hi everyone, I just joined and am thrilled to find you and to be here. I don't have a pic of my car yet because I don't have one yet. That's why I'm here. I'd appreciate your input. Here's my deal: This is it. I can no longer live without a 991. Its now, and its immediate! So since I live in a snowy climate for 9 months of the year (!?!) I believe a 4 is the only way to go. But is there any downside to getting the AWD? Porsche is so iconically RWD... I want the S or GTS. I don't think I have a choice but to get the 4 because of the rain and snow and 3,000 ft change in elevation daily. So while I'm sure some of you are just horrified to hear that, I want to drive this car as much as possible and regardless of the weather (within limits of course). Also, no PDK for me... I want a manual. Second, excluding the cost issue, do I go new or used? I'm thinking new because its my first, I've always wanted one, and I don't intend to ever get rid of it except for another one. But, there seem to be very few used 4 S's and GTS's anyway. Why is that?
So if any of you have any direct experience living in similar conditions, or if any of you know of a 4 S or GTS with low miles, I would really appreciate your input. Thanks!!

Welcome to 6Speed!

Since you do live in a snowy climate for the better part of the year, and you want to tough it out and drive the 911 in said weather (I applaud you for that!!) the only logical choice would be the AWD models. Downside? The AWD models gain a little weight with the addition of the extra AWD hardware, but they obviously feel a bit more planted when driving. You lose a small bit of 'toss-ability' but gain that back in terms of traction. No real downside based on your location!

Good choice on the manual - save them!

Being your first, and if you fully intend on keeping it - It's fun to fully customize it down to every last detail to make it your very own. I would say unless you can find one in your exact spec, have fun and build one out and order it! Likely few for sale since the owners are happily driving theirs at the moment - especially in GTS trim, those owners are keeping them for the long haul I'd imagine.

Best of luck in your search, and if you have any questions feel free to reach out - this is a great community with tons of knowledge if you know where to look!

I think you need a Turbo. You'll get the AWD standard, and the performance of the turbocharged engine will be less affected by the elevation changes. Plus it's faster. The only downside is the lack of a manual.
Realistically, a 7-speed manual 4S is a sweet car and will serve you well. Buy used if you can find one that suits you and you can save a lot of money. Otherwise spec it out exactly as you want it.
