Well, the guys over on the GTR boards have found the "black box." It's the key!

According to them, they are 1/2 way to cracking it.

HAHA now that is classic. That would have to have been about the last place that anyone would have ever looked!

Just curious, but how would cracking the black box help with modding the car? Is it possible to program it to show a "normal" history?

From reading the thread, it seems BMW does the same thing. They use the key to store data. So, BMW drivers, use the other key when something happens.

As if they don't have enough problems with the Tranny, Pump, and Warranty Denials now they want to open up the black box and let Nissan void the whole car. That is classic.

If Nissan won't open up the tranny to prove there is a problem at the moment and go by what this little black box tells them then opening/hacking the blackbox will be the end of that cars warranty and resale.

People have said it before and time at the moment will prove it again. The DCT/DSG of what ever variations you want to call it in the current Audi, Nissan, BMW M3 cannot handle the torque that these things are being tuned to. Porsche is having a hard time with the PDK for the Turbos. Have you seen it on the Audi high HP cars yet? SMG is different on the older BMW's. Ferrari and Bugatti well they have more money to spend on the tranny and the Ferrari is a variant of the SMG with the new F430 Scuderia having new software that allows them to shift at 60ms. That is old E46 M3 SMGII shift times. The bugatti gets a DSG with probably a 100K plus tranny.

In the BMW they record in 3 spots and rumors has it up to 5 spots. The key is one of three and its more to keep your mileage accurate

I would just say someone stole it if they are going to be a-holes like that.

Audi's DSG is a far superior design, the best clutchless manual trans. Anyone anyone interested in comparing the tranmissions should do some HW on the tranny designs. Their are 350+ hp 2.0FSI's running around with zero problems. The system is not viable for high hp applications yet due to extremely high manufacturing costs. Though I assure you in two years or so you will see.

Its an evolutionary process like anything else...

Bugatti= VW = Audi. So if Bugatti has the technology and know-how, so do the others.

Sure the parts and assembly of the Bugatti are obviously superior to VW or Audi, but the knowledge should be there.

Thanks for the Audi Update I know who makes what.

I didn't say it was superior I am saying for the cost of these cars it is cost prohibitive. We can all have a salt water processing plant in each coast to create a great supply of freshwater but at what cost?

The DSG doesn't have a problem handling HP as it does Torque. That is proven. The PDK is the same in that regards. The variations are very similiar from name/brand to each other. The cost is the problem.

The knowledge has nothing to do with it. Porsche has PDK out for some time now and did not use it for the consumer application because of cost.

This is the point - THEY HAVE MORE TO SPEND ON THE TRANNY - to reinforce it and make it handle the power.

Most people do-- so I tried not to belabor it.

I understand your points and mostly agree. I guess my point was that with some knowledge and development, they can start improving the technology and making it economical enough for use in less expensive cars. If that makes sense.
