Do I purchase a 2009 or 2010 GT-R?
Do I purchase a 2009 or 2010 GT-R?
I am on the fence about this car. I believe I want to purchase one, and can get a new 2009 for $1500 over invoice. I would like to get input from the people in the know. Not sure what to do.

Honestly unless you are worried about the small difference in the suspension and 5hp power then I would get the 09. But i also think that 2010s will be had for good deals too later. Both will have the updated trans software so that is not an issue. Save the money and get the 09
If you plan on keeping the car stock, I would say get the 2010 model. Because of the whole launch control, VDC issue, selling the 2010 later on would be easier (its a psychological issue). If you plan on modding the car, then go for the 2009 and save the money as has already been stated.

Some 2009's can be had at MSRP. But the 2010 also has suspension upgrade. I'd be interested in that.
And it also may depend on what color you want your rims.
I'm not sure about the launch control, VDC issue, as this is a non-issue if the car was purchased after Feb. There is no ability to launch the car at high rpm's after the update.

As for cars with upgrades... yes, assuming the VDC has not been turned off prior to that. I am even wary of dealerships. Maybe its paranoia already with the GT-R. Lol.
That's awesome that you can get a 2010 for MSRP.
But if the car was shipped to the dealer after Jan, it arrived at the dealer with the LC1 removed. So there was nothing they could do. Just because it's a 2010 model doesn't mean that they haven't switched off the VDC either, and recorded a 3000rpm clutch dump. However, it'll be recorded by the time in use. However. That won't even globally 'void' a warranty either. The warranty issues have been extremely isolated, just overpopularized by the millions of GT-R experts on the internet.
I hope you enjoy your car.

Since you have the car and know more about it than I do, can you explain to me the difference between the LC1 and having a 2010 with no Launch Control function. How can you dump the clutch at 3000 rpm then? I know they dropped the revs for the launch with the ECU upgrade. But doesn't that mean then that there is a launch control program, just revised? Also, is there a launch control that allows you to do it with the VDC turned on? So only if you turn off the VDC you will not be covered?
Appreciate your thoughts.

Not in the market for a GT-R just yet.

LC2.0 (affectionately known as) is the same function as LC1, but there is no VDC setting required. It can be launched in VDC-normal, VDC-R, or VDC-off, in auto mode, or manual. Instead of revving to 4500rpms, it only revs to 3000rpms, which is actually better for acceleration because that is right at the beginning of the torque curve, so you get more out 1st gear.
It's less violent, and it is also covered under warranty (because there is no more need to disable VDC). You could do it with VDC-normal, but it is unlikely that you'll keep traction, and it will pull power from you. I've run VDC-R for numerous runs, and traction is not a big issue (not resolved 100%, but less of an issue).
So if somebody disabled VDC and did a launch, it is recorded. If you want to know if somebody did it, the dealer will be able to tell you. If the previous owner (or antsy dealer) launched with VDC-R, and then something breaks later on because of it, it is covered under warranty.
If new it sounds like a pretty good discount on a new MSRP car. Roughly 4k
with some negotiation, 09 cars can be had for under 76k. Right around invoice, maybe lower depending on the dealership. 2010 cars can easily be had for 2k off MSRP.
