debating on the GTR
So....you've looked at Boxsters, Caymans, 997TTs, GT-Rs, GT3s. What exactly are you looking for in your next car? These are fairly different vehicles and in terms of performance, 987s shouldn't even be in the same sentence as the other three.
You've stated you're looking for fun factor and "cost per dollar" (not sure what that means exactly.) They're all fun cars, what do you plan on doing with them?

im even confusing myself as to what i want. i just want a fun car to drive on the weekends. i thought about boxster vs GTR bc both cars are very different. Deep down inside, i want a convertible and GTR is a hardtop. however i cant deny the fact that the GTR is 10x more fun to drive than the boxster even for an automatic. I ve never owned a car that cost 70k, its the first time i want to spend on that much on a car. I just dont know if i can justify spending 70k on a car that i drive only on the weekends.
I love the look of the TT, its always been my dream ever since i was young to own a TT but after driving it finally last week, i just dont know if its worth it. maybe i lack the driving skills, but i didnt find it fun to drive.
i ve never driven a gt3 before.
If you count in how much more the ZR1 cost over the GTR it is not cheaper. Its probably 20-40 more just in purchase price at least which gobbles alot of service money alone. And there is not data suggesting it is more reliable or tracks better either. Judging by alot of drivers the GTR would easier to drive and track because of its AWD.
Looks are in the eyes of the owner not the cpu screen. The ZO6 would be a better choice there not the ZR1
I think you are not really looking for a performance car at all. You are looking for something fun to ride around in with the top down so you can be seen by your adoring fans. I think the boxster is the car for you since you want a cabrio but if it was between the Boxster and cayman it would be the cayman all day for me since its more of a performance/drivers car.Aside from you comparing fun factor/cost per dollar.......those performance numbers can = fun factor. Again you dont seem to be concerned with those performance numbers but rather a top down cruising experience which is cool but a totally different kind of "fun factor" than what I am thinking.
The GTR is very fun to drive and I look forward to driving it everyday. It also is and can be a great DD if you choose it to be. I know several people that have no other car and use the GTR as its DD. I guess its all how you perceive it, or how much you believe from all the internet babble.
Have fun in your Boxster as it seems to be the car for you.
^ funny... I feel the Boxster is the 'affordable' Porsche that only people who couldn't afford a C2 purchase...
But then again, I personally believe that a C2 is purchased by people who can't afford a 911t.
And at that point, if you bought the 911t, it blends in with the 'poor' people who only purchased a Boxter or C2.
That being said, I like the C2 with PDK. I'd definitely consider the C2S (does it come in PDK? If so, that would be a good competitor).

Im gonna go back next weekend and drive these cars one more time before making the decision.

just because boxster and cayman r low end porsche, doesnt mean they are piece of sh*t that people can step on. they are fun cars to drive.
i ve driven the PDK CS, it definitely feels faster than a 6speed.
The only thing about the GTR that i dont like is the look, it looks boxy...
And I'm not sure what you meant by the Boxster and Cayman are the same... When I drove the Cayman, it felt 'right'. It was a pleasure to drive. It didn't feel the same as a Boxster at all.
substance - I don't believe it was a criticism directed at you. I think this is just Charlie being sarcastic about the commonly accepted notion that the GT-R 'drives itself'.
I drove a GTR this weekend. The owner is a new friend of mine I met at the track. He let me romp his car a few times and I have to say the GTR has my respect. On the track he was Faaaaaaaast!!!! As, were the other two GTR's at the track. GTR's cost 70-85k but they must cost much more to build. I would love to have one and will seriously consider one in the near future. However, if I could only have one I would chose my TT. But, that has always been my dream car. You just can not deny that the GTR is bad *** car and if you get one you will be a happy camper. I say get the GTR or the TT can't go wrong either way.
Sounds like You dont know what You want...
Drive em all, and if you can afford which ever You like, then get it. Who cares what magazine says is the hottest beast on the street. For some reason whenever I come up on 911 Turbos they can't get away from me in my Cayman S in the canyons out here in Cali... The face the drivers make when they have to pull aside to let me pass is great...knowing they spent 2x as much as I did just to be blown away by my so-called 'cheapy' Porsche. But then again my 1974 International Scout is way faster than my Porsche...sad but true. All the cars You've mentioned aside from maybe the GT3 are totally usable(comfortable) daily drivers...
im not sure what you mean by driving down the road with the top down showing off the boxster. i dont think the low end porsche is a show off at all..i said the cabrio is an added bonus to the cay, i dont understand how you would spend extra 10k to get a hardtop when it drives exactly the same. how you justify spending the extra money is beyond my understanding. if money is not a concern i would get the GT2, unfortunately thats out of my price range. im very concerned about the performance numbers, but keep in mind i have never owned a performance sports car in my life before. i had driven many nice sports cars but never owned one. i dont need a DD as i have one already, this new car im getting is just a weekend cruiser. I also dont understand how people make fun of the boxster and not the cayman when its exactly the same. a boxster s loaded cost 71k at the dealer, a GTR cost 85k. they are not very much far apart in price. but performance wise, the GTR wins hands down.
Im gonna go back next weekend and drive these cars one more time before making the decision.

Maybe you should start with the lower end of the spectrum first to see how you like it and then if you do get a higher performing car later.
Test drive the GT3 first but you can't go wrong with the GTR.
But since you want a convertible... maybe a used Vantage or M6
but of course you're giving up performance. But it doesn't hurt to take em for a spin.

I've also been heavily contemplating purchasing a GTR. They continue to grow on me every time I read a good review or see one. The only problem is that I will be driving it a lot (almost like a DD) and haven't uncovered too much info how the car fairs as a DD. I already own a convertible and I rarely even use it, not nearly as much as I said/thought I would when I was purchasing the car.
