debating on the GTR
I ve been looking for a weekend toy for the past week. always been a big fan of 997 TT until i drove it and it felt more like muscle car than a sports car. So I decided to give GTR a drive, and it blows everything i have driven out of the waterl. its such a fun car to drive for an semi-auto.
now the decision is between spending 30k on a 987S or spend the extra 40k on the GTR or maybe the TT. I found a GTR for 70k, and a TT for 85k.
at this point, i dont know whats worth it. friends are telling me to just get the 987s and call it a day because in the end its just a weekend toy.

i think with the new 2010+ transmission it should be okay.
as for the GT3. you can't really mod that at all either. i mean, say you get I/H/E, Cams + ECU, you're going to gain like what, 5-10% hp at 8500rpm? With the GTR a tune alone gets you more gains than that.
either way, if you're looking for a sports-car, i'd say a 997.2GT3 is the way to go. Or a cayman-s like me if that's all you can afford.

How can you not really mod the GTR? please explain that?? Patiently waits to see how your going to step out of that poop hole.Anyhow, If you liked the GTR that much then get it. The GT3 will be more expensive and probably a little more of what you didnt like with the 997 TT.
All great cars and you really cant go wrong with any of them. It all boils down to what you like and can afford. If you can afford a GTR the cayman shouldnt even be on your list as it is so much more than it. It would be more inline with the 370Z and if it were a choice between those 2 I would pick the cayman. No offense split.

im chosing the boxster s over the cayman s because its the same car and the softtop adds an additional bonus as a convertible. now i just dont know if i should spend the extra 40k on top of the 30k to get an GTR. is this worth it?
i could probably get a 997.1 GT3 for around 90k but i havent driven one yet because its hard to find one around here.
I love the way TT looks but hated the fact that i dont get instant power. the lag sucks.

how do u compare your caymans s to the boxster s? i drove both and they are the exactly the same. boxster is at least 5k less

i read that if you mod anything on the GTR it will void the warranty. the only mod im looking to do is wheels and exhaust. its already extremely fast and i dont think any engine mod is necessary for me at this pt.

Wheels and exhaust shouldnt void your warranty. It when you start doing ECU mods or raise the boost that Nissan would have a problem with
If your asking if the GTR is worth the extra money then you dont see the value in the car. The GTR compares to the 997tt not the cayman-boxster.

im not comparing performance numbers between the boxster and the GTR, im comparing fun factor/cost per dollar.
I just got 08 cayman last week for a great deal
I would definately get the Cayman S over a Boxter S. I live in VA so convertible is not always useful 4 me, but I think it has really nice lines. GTR is really cool but I cannot see my self using that car everyday. CS is more of an everyday car than GTR. I think since your price range is flexible it seems like you want to spend about 70,000 on a car. CS is your perfect choice Go for the 09 models. For mods exhaust and a stereo system you will be really happy with this choice. After joining this forum after buying my car I see what other ppl have I am kinda regretting not getting a CS. I got a cobalt blue color Cayman which I loved and it was a really good deal. I thought I could drive pretty well but after buying this car I feel like I have lots of learning to do. Regular Cayman with less hp, makes me work harder to keep up with the big boys, which makes it more entertaining of a daily driver for me. I plan on using my money to go take driving courses buy tires, trak my car to improve my driving skills. AFter having it for just more than a week I feel like I need more power in this car. But once I am on twisty roads this car is a blast to drive. I strongly suggest you look into getting the 09 model cayman.

You've stated you're looking for fun factor and "cost per dollar" (not sure what that means exactly.) They're all fun cars, what do you plan on doing with them?
A Corvette ZR1 would be allot faster than the GTR, probably more reliable, cheaper to maintain and track and allot better looking for similar coinage. If the car is just to drive around and show off then go with the Porsche, any Porsche should do this.
