But then again, I personally believe that a C2 is purchased by people who can't afford a 911t.

And at that point, if you bought the 911t, it blends in with the 'poor' people who only purchased a Boxter or C2.

That being said, I like the C2 with PDK. I'd definitely consider the C2S (does it come in PDK? If so, that would be a good competitor).
This may be one of the most ill informed posts I've ever read on this forum. Have you ever driven a CaymanS or a Boxster? I owned a CaymanS for a period of time and it is the best handling car I've ever been in. Is it the fastest? hell no, not by a longshot.....but for reliability, build quality, fun factor, etc. you cannot go wrong with a CaymanS. Take one out on a test drive and find a twisty road and thrash it. You may end up buying one....especially where prices are on them these days. Just dont pln on racing a Z06 from stoplight to stoplight in it.
As far as it being for someone that can't afford a 911, that's .....you haven't a clue.

To the OP -- it sounds like $$$$ are on your mind and will factor into this decision. If you want a weekend car and a convertible, it sounds like a 987S might be the car for you.

I already own a convertible and I rarely even use it, not nearly as much as I said/thought I would when I was purchasing the car.
I used mine as a daily driver for 9 months and put 9k miles on it during that time. It's perfectly liveable as a daily driver. If you're not totally nailing it, it actually feels like many other "normal" cars. The main disadvantage of driving it daily is that the novelty of the car wears off relatively quickly....I wouldn't say it gets boring, but you do get used to the performance and the thrill goes away. It's funny, because I daily drove my GT3 and never seemed to get tired of it.

I'm not going to lie:

I have a C2S because I didn't want to have to stretch to buy a GT3...

To the OP - that's an interesting selection of cars you are cross shopping. Apples and oranges for sure.

Eggzactly! That's why the wife is closely watching the price of the C2S w/pdk (used). It's a great car, and about as fun as she needs it to be.

amerlemans - I've already commented about how impressed I was about driving the Cayman. A lot more on other threads. I wasn't discounting the Cayman, I just simply moved on to the other cars being discussed during the time of my post.

I've already expressed that my 'dream' Porsche consists of an AWD Cayman-tt.

(Yes, I realize that can't happen with the current chassis - it's a pipe dream for sure)

Substance,
It is not really hard decision. If you like very powerful and fast car, GTR is at awesome price compare to 997tt. You can modified it later after your warranty expired. It will be a monster with a lot of fun. But if you do not care much about the thrills of gforce push your back, a Cayman or Boxster may be an answer for you.

Since you are looking at a "used" 911 tt at 85k Im shocked you arent looking at used Gallardos. They can be had in the mid 80's as well. Obviously not the 560-4 but earlier 500hp Gallardos. Pretty reliable from the boards Ive been on and it kills the Porsche and the GTR in exoticness/uniqueness/looks if not all around performance. Maybe you should test drive a Gallardo before you make your ultimate decission. Also some pretty "affordable" Ferraris out there in your stated price range too. Perfect exotic weekend warriors: Heres a few Gallardos

Its actually shocking how Gallardo prices have taken a dump. They dont hold there value like the Ferrari F430 or even the Ford GT. Great for guys like you with the cash to step up to a legitimate exotic. Wish you the best in your decision but I dont think you can go wrong with the GTR, 911 tt or Gallardo etc. Wish i had your problem A guy can lose his mind on this site lol: http://www.dupontregistry.com/autos/

Get whatever comes with a 6 speed manual. That is what driving is all about. These new auto/manual dual clutch transes take you out of the equation. Any monkey can drive those cars.

Gallardo is not a Lambo, its a "Baby Lambo" as Lamborghini calls it... "real Lamborghini's have V12's." Now go get one... "Live today tomorrow is not guaranteed"
