Project R34 TA
Project R34 TA
It all started yesterday..
My friend Jon and I were talking yesterday about our Nissans, and plans with what to do with them. He mentioned competing in Redline's Time Attack series. At first I was thinking "yea, right... I suck at driving.."
Then I thought positive. Why couldn't I compete in one of the classes?
So I went to Redline's website (www.redlinetimeattack.com I believe) and read the rules for the street class. To me, it sounded pretty lenient. Fully built motor and head: OK. Upgraded turbo: OK. Suspension mods galore. The only real limit I saw was the maximum tire width for an AWD car: 255. The car currently has 275mm wide steamrollers on all four corners, so I will be sacrificing some grip, all while putting down more power. I don't need a roll cage (it is a street car, after all) but I will be using a harness bar w/ Schroth harnesses w/ their anti-submarine 4-points. I will also have a fire extinguisher inside the cabin as well.
As for the motor, there's still a ton of plans. I just purchased a brand new Full Race turbo manifold w/ a top-mount twin-scroll T4 flange on it, and it's already coated. The turbo decision is still up in the air.
For fueling, I have a couple of options. The street class limits cars to unleaded fuel only, but I can use methanol injection. Ethanol fueled vehicles are also legal in all classes. Since E85, or E98 offer an overall higher octane rating than the 93 + meth, I may go that route, but I will not have the cooling properties of the meth. So that option is still in the air. Upon inspection of the car, there were many faults with it. First off, the clutch was different from what the previous owner stated. Instead of a Cusco twin plate, it was an Exedy triple. Instead of GReddy 264/272 cams, they're actually Grex (same as GReddy) 256 cams, which explains the insignificant power gains. So here's the new planned mod list:
Engine:
Tomei rods
CP pistons, with coated skirts and domes
Ported head
1mm oversize valves possibly
Tomei 270* intake and exhaust Procams
Tomei cam pulleys
Full-Race T4 Manifold (Purchased)
Turbo, undecided
Custom FMIC
Custom intake manifold
1000cc injectors if using E85 or E98
Other miscellaneous things
Drivetrain:
Nismo twin plate coppermix clutch (Installed)
Nismo slave cylinder (Purchased)
Nismo clutch line (Installed)
Cryo-treated input shaft (Installed)
Suspension:
GReddy Type-S coilovers, but may sell and go with a more track oriented setup
Sway bars
Top Secret front strut bar (Purchased)
Some other miscellaneous bars/bits
Wheels, Tires, and Brakes:
Purchased a set of Volk TE37's in an 18x10.5, but these will most likely remain a street setup wheel. For the track, I will be going 18x9.
I plan on updated this post every week or so over winter, and a few times before then once the car is back complete and driving.

Hey Cossey, I'm sending you a PM about this car. I remember when it was making the rounds for sale and I had a bit of conversation with the owner at the time, would love to run a few things by you. -Dan
I don't want to pee on your cheerios, but I have asked Redline about running an R32 in street class, and they had this to say about that and the R34...
"The R32 can... Back in the day, when we created the vehicle classification lists, the EVOs and STIs could not hang with the R32.... Now the EVOs and STIs are DAMN FAST, and I believe the R32 will have a VERY tough time competing.
R34s and R35s still go into Modified Class... "
So I said " What makes an R32 different than an R33 or R34 ? If an R32 is in street, then R33 and R34 should be street.
As you said the Evo and STI are fast. They can make as much power and weigh a lot less. With a 255 max tire, you are going to be tire limited."
I got no response to that. Jacko has run his R34 at a couple of the events and he has to run in Modified Class.

That was all pretty funny, because the R32 we have... well. Its special. http://rbmotorsports.blogspot.com/search/label/R32.4 I haven't had a chance this year to get it out to any events. I have been helping a friend run his car in NASA, so no time to burn my own money.
If you want a serious time attack R34, we still have the World Challenge car at the shop. None of this ex-street car BS. http://rbmotorsports.blogspot.com/20...challenge.html

I went over there and posted.
As far as "faults" with your car and disclosures. I don't know if its actually an 02. By 02 all the cars were Vspec II's. The two things that sticks out in your pictures is the all aluminum factory radiator and the relay cover under the hood. Those items were an early car thing. Prior to them switching factories in late 2000. I was around these cars when they were new . Mr. T - "father of the R34" was over in the US when they were new and showed us some things, and answered some of our questions.
If you email me your chassis number, I can give you an idea of what year the car actually is. tyndago@gmail.com

I wish you didn't wait to post your for sale ad! As soon as I bought this from John, you posted yours and I had instant buyer's remorse. The lighter silver color is much better (and matches my 911 and Subaru lol) and I <3 CE28N's.
Sean- It has been confirmed it is a 2000. The previous owner knowingly lied to me about it.
