2010 TT PDK compared to GT-R
Good point, because at the end of the day.....the GTR is still a Nissan, and I still drive an overpriced Toyota Camry
-just sayin
I'll sum up my view on the cars...
997 TT = Bulletproof
In fact my 07 has never had so much as one issue. I really could not believe that the service interval from new was 2 years or the first 20K miles.
GT-R = Maintenance nightmare
In the span of one oil change in the 997TT you will be visiting Nissan many, many times. Just for the scheduled stuff, not to mention all the other problems. The last thing you want to be doing is making trips to your Nissan dealer to repair your "highly reliable Japanese car". No thank you.
I drove the new PDK and it's acceleration is quite simply astonishing. I have a spot for the new S when and if it becomes available. If the new 997TT is this good I can's imagine what the S will do.

sigh...........GT-R maintenance nightmare? This information is of course from your first hand experience driving and owning a GTR right? When you say "not to mention all the other problems", what do you mean specifically?. Judging by the cars you have owned or own you know a thing or two about cars. Since I dont know the span of one oil change in the 997tt what is it because I really honestly dont know? Just for the record this "highly reliable Japanese car" you speak of for me has had 2 oil and filter changes at $107 each and some of that special air put in the tires. Now this is at over a year of ownership (14months now and 9000 miles as of today). Total service cost? = $214.00
Now you mean to tell me that my service cost are out of line for a car in this performance category?
I have seen another person quote the service intervals of the 997tt at 20k or 2 years too but you and I both know it would not be prudent to at least change the oil a few times in those 2years.
I still cant belive after all this time people are still getting their information about this car from a magazine or internet post or blog.
At my current rate of driving going to 2 years like your Porsche 997tt I will have changed the oil 3 times in the GTR @ a total price of $321.00. I have to date had no issues or screwed up problems which have made me go to the dealer unexpectedly(whoops sorry I lied about that, I have been to dealer recently to add some more air in the tires). Is this normal for most GTR owners. I would say yes. Now of course if I tracked the car on a frequent basis it would have raised the cost of service and made the intervals more too.
Now you mean to tell me in your 2 years or 20000 miles of ownership with your Porsche you would not have even changed the oil or checked the fluids? I will tell you this if you didnt bother to do that within those 2yr or 20000 miles and you were selling your car I would not buy it over a car that did have its oil and fluids taken care of and just about everyone in here would agree with me on that one too.
Dont get me wrong I love all Porsche's and growing up in Germany I loved everything German. I still marvel at them on the autobahn passing me in the left lane at speeds I couldn't imagine. I remember in late 80's getting a ride in 959 ( memories ).
Anyway I never thought a car could surpass or meet a turbo Porsche toe to toe would be possible. Well the R35 has and Nissan deserves its day!
I absolutly love Porsche's, and thought a GT2 would be my next car but after waiting and waiting on the R35 I am glad I got the Nissan. Porsche has had 40 years of development, refinement, testing on this platform to make it what it is today. Even when Porsche tried to change, phase the out 911 platform with the 928 owners wouldnt have it and probably never will. We will probably still see this basic body shape for another 40 years.
One thing I love about its owners is they are loyal die hard Porsche fans in and out just like Nissan's owners are about the R35 GTR. I didnt buy the Nissan because it is nearly half the cost of a 997tt but because of how it makes me feel when I drive it just like the Porsche does for you.
They are both awesome cars no matter the cost. These things about service cost and all the other things are really trivial. When you sit in the drivers seat of either car you will know which is for you period...............
and I do agree with one thing you said and that is the new 997tt will be a beast!!
Let me do all of you guys a favor, do a search and you will find BILLIONS of threads and responses, all of which basically state this:
GTR:
GTR is 80k, Turbo is upwards of 130K
Faster "ring" time
Multi-magazine car of the year and other various random industry awards
Car is "modern" and gets more p*ssy than a lambo
No major maintenance issues
Bottom line, 911 Turbo beater for less
The other side will always argue:
Car is ugly
Car is fat and you can feel the 4000 lbs when you drive it
Car is not reliable, the tranny is a ticking time bomb and maintenance is outrageous
Ring times were done with a modified vehicle and have't been duplicated by an independent source
For the money, you can buy a 996TT and mod it to be faster in a straight line
Nissan, the brand name is junk and will never compare to the Porsche name
What I've written above is just a summary of all the previous posts on this topic. It is not my opinion as I don't really give a d*mn. Only post after me if you aren't repeating what has previously been written. Cheers!

hahaha, it's been said that the GTR is a panty dropper. I decided to do an independent test, took this car for a drive on my coffee break. All of a sudden....all these b*tches wanted to touch it.

Both different animals, if not similar.
I own a 2010 GT-R and 997TT 6 speed. I'm considering on buying another 997TT, mainly this time 997.2TT PDK. I heard lots of goodies about this new 997 and I think it's a great car. It's just the matter of how much you spend for a car. For about $5,000 basic tuning, you can make GT-R perform even faster than what it is by adding about 120HP at the crank and be faster than the 997.2TT PDK.
But with a slight tuning on 997.2TT PDK, I'm sure it will be even faster than the tuned GT-R... Story will run endlessly. ;-)
The question is... One is an $80K car and one is a $150K car. Which is better? Nobody can say it right but I'm sure both are great cars for what they provide for the money...

Harsh...
Oh, to add to the thread that I just wrote, GT-R's transmission (Getrag) is far more jerky and noisy than the 997.2TT PDK (ZF). I like how it shifts but it's too noisy and the steering wheel makes LOTS of noises when turning left to left and vice-versa. It's crazy loud...
I heard GT-R went with the Getrag because ZF is a lot more expensive... It's easier to understand why 997.2TT should be more expensive just for this reason alone.... ;-)
