Transmission Issues - Not related to LC

I've been really fired up to get a GTR this spring and have been spending a LOT of time reading the NAGTROC forum. It appears that there are still numerous transmission issues by owners that are not launching or not even driving their cars that aggressively.

http://www.nagtroc.org/forums/index.php?showforum=9

Are these isolated cases? I know that all cars have isolated problems, and maybe these transmission issues are just springing up to the highly publicized tranny failures from LC1, but I'm starting to feel that these are not.

Trying to get some objective perspective here since this has started to make me think twice about picking one up.

My $.02:

If you are looking to pick up a new/used one - purchase the extended warranty.

It is easy to tell if it has ever been launched (w/LC1). And my concern is simple - it seems as if the problems with the transmission is not with any weak gearing, clutches, etc..., but rather with the circlips (and sometimes a solenoid). These issues would surface early on, instead of later.

So do you believe in the longevity of the transmission - assuming the circlips/solenoid are resolved under warranty - if the car were to be used as a DD?

Does it make sense to try and find a car where those minor items have already been addressed then?

Interesting... You're suggesting that the initial owner worked out the squeaky windshield, had the center console padded to stop the vibrations, etc..., but made it thoroughly past the break-in point?

That's kinda what I'm thinking...
