if you guys want to do Sawa, we can set up a time and get good stuff (live lobster, etc.) and negotiate a slightly better rate (though i just usually do $200/head.) good luck just walking in JKB - i've seen many people shamed at the door.

GoWide will attest that the fish is quite remarkable.

Edit: this is NOT the hardest restaurant to get into though. that honor belongs to the secret beef place in LA. dude keeps the doors locked and will not let you make a reservation unless he knows you personally. doesn't help that he answers his cell phone in Japanese and then i feel like an obnoxious american talking in english:

(we could arrange a meeting for this too but you'd better be balling that night... the chef loves nice wine.)

Kid - if you want the real Manresa experience, we should go sometime, perhaps once we finish our little business, to celebrate. i'll pay for the nerd :-)

Never tried Manresa but I have been to Cafe Marcella. It's just a few steps away from Manresa. The chef from 180 (Nick Difu) used to be the executive chef at Cafe Marcella.

Dude I'll just walk in and bust out the Indian accent:

"Hey buddy. You mess with me and I'll buy this strip mall and turn it into a goddam Motel 6.. You hear me buddy!"

Have you been to Fenton's in Oakland? Personally I think they make the best ice cream, particularly the swiss milk chocolate. Their chocolate sauce is the best I have ever had too.

If you are ever at Santana Row later in the day check out Amber India one of my favorite Indian restaurants. They have one in Mountain View as well but not as nice of atmosphere, but the food still excellent at both places!

you already violated cardinal rule #1 - NEVER EVER NEVER EVER eat sushi on a Sunday. it's not fresh!

he's usually open for dinner Tues - Sat... good luck!

i heard the Ivan got into Sawa - congrats!

for those near Napa, Ubuntu in downtown Napa is very very good. it's all vegetarian but you'll never notice. the chef is the former sous chef for Manresa - the food is not sophisticated but it is careful. get the bbq brussel sprouts w/ grits, cauliflower 3-ways in a hot pot, and whatever else tickles your fancy.
