When would you use the lap timing device? PCA would have a fit at their lap days. They are very strict about lap timing as it affects the insurance for the events.

Speedware,
How does it work? Specifically, does it use a beacon or GPS to "know" when the lap is complete?

Thanks, sounds great. I know some places around here have issues with putting a beacon out at track days.

the SportVue uses a wireless beacon placed at the side of the track to monitor your lap times. And yes you're correct; our lapping days included they are to be "non competitive", non timed events.

PJ I've got a lap timing device you can buy if you want it. 06' 997 GT3 Cup. It has the Motec installed and I have a laptop that comes with the car with software included. Very easy to work with and main display that's easy to see. $180k for you my friend. Only 55 hours on the engine.

PS, one of the coolest features of that Vbox is it's soon to be released Video Overlay option.

So you can record your laps on video and have those stats projected into the video automatically. (i'm assuming you'd have to buy that setup from them that or it would somehow tap into the video feed going to the recorder assuming it's a recorder recording directly on to a Hard Drive.

If you really are going that crazy go with Victory Lane Data out of Graham, Wa. They have a couple of systems for your car. Video and etc.
