I'll chime in a little bit as well.., I have always disliked when people ask me what I do. I don't even tell people what cars I drive or what it is that I dabble in for work, nor do I have people come over to my house often.., cause at my age its always ASKED w/ an eyebrow raised. And because of that, I just keep to myself. Bens right, it’s different if it’s asked in person (depending upon how it’s asked and by whom).

The other day, some dude comes up to me at the gas station and asks me how much I spent on my car. I HATE THOSE QUESTIONS.. They may be genuine from the guy asking, but it’s a stupid question in my opinion.

I think it's really nobodies business what you do for a living and if the person wants to tell you then great, but if not who cares.. With the computer age there are so many younger folks making big bucks it really no surprise anymore. In my younger days if you made big bucks when you were young chances are you were engaged in illegal activities or your daddy was lining your pockets.. Anyway that's my 2 cents .

For me, this group is about cars, friends and fun. Its not about networking or finding new customers. I'm pretty sure most of us are trying to escape work for a few hours and blow off some steam. Certainly a benefit of this group is some of us provide services that others need and a known comodity is a great resource. That isn't to say I'm at an event to drum up business. I think its totally appropriate to ask someone what they do for a living while we're standing around visiting, its a normal "get to know ya" kind of conversation...on the forum, not so much.

Yup, i get that one all the time at the gas station. Often from the attendants. I don't get offended, but it is uncomfortable. When they as how much? I just say, "a lot". that usually ends the conversation about pricing

^^^okay...i have a good one about the gas station, and i'm in a boxster! not a TT, or a ferrari, etc...etc...like you guys!

anyway, i pulled up to get gas, and the attendant came over from behind the cash register and said "ohhh.....what a good looking porsche. can i kiss it?". i'm sure i had a bewildered look on my face, and before i had time to answer, he bent down and kissed the pcar crest on the hood!

but hey, at least he didn't ask how much it cost! lol!

I wonder if he'd still have kissed it if it were PINK!

I am with you Todd. It's about getting away from my daily hectic life. Meeting colleagues who share the same crazy passions for cars. A moment of breather from the rest of the world's Dramas....
