New to the board...Hi everyone!
Greetings!
Owning a new GT-R attracts the nicest folks
I met BuzzedHornet outside a party store (he pretty much hung up on his Mother-In-Law once he spotted the car...Now thats a car guy!) today and he mentioned that a lot of go-fast car guys and gals tend to hang out here. Suprisingly, I'm one of those people myself, so it seemed appropriate to join up! I look forward to meeting some of you folks, however the rainy season tends to put a damper on that at least for the short term.
I live in Bothell, WA, and I have a few other cars, but nothing as interesting as the GT-R.

Hey there! That was quick. Thanks for letting me drool over your car! I have some stuff to clean that up if you need it =)
Welcome aboard. As John mentioned we have lots of great car people around here. Hope to see you out at some of our events soon (well not likely real soon due to the time of year).
Cheers,
Rob

The GT-R
Hey All!
In response to those that have questioned how I like the car - It's an incredible feat of engineering, and I'm proud to own it. Well...the bank owns it, but they let me drive it from time to time.
This is the first true supercar that I've owned, but its hard for me to imagine that things can get much better....Not impossible to imagine, but hard
There are a few things I dont care for though - The launch control issue...If you haven't heard of it, a quick google search will return thousands of hits. Oh wait, forget I said google - use www.live.com instead
The readers digest version is as follows: to use launch control (basically a 4500rpm clutch dump) you need to turn off the VDC (vehicle dynamic control/traction control) as well as change a couple other settings. The manual states that turning off that option and operating the vehicle will void the warranty on any parts that break as a result. There's been at least a couple of folks who used (the crap out of) the launch control feature and smoked their transmission, which is a 20k item to replace. I have volumes to say about the issue, but thats the long and short of it. But hey, its a track car, not a purpose built drag racer..but it would be nice to have a car that was reliable enough to use the go fast features that are built into it.
Another not so great feature is the stereo. While the input options are plentiful (XM, FM, CD, compact flash reader, internal HD, Ipod interface) it's an 11 speaker Bose system that includes 2 subs, and while theres a lot of power, the high highs and low lows just aren't there. It's good, but its far from great with regards to sound quality...Though it's better than the Ferrari system's I've heard.
The only other thing I can ***** about is this wierd residue, presumably from the exhaust, that quickly coats the rear end of the vehicle after a long drive. 200 miles, and its covered in a soot that a driveway car wash cant remove. I've gotten it off with a clear coat cleaner, but that seems harsh for repeated use. Anyone have any suggestions on something to coat the car with that will make this grime fail to stick? Other owners of white GT-R's have reported the same issue (I'm sure all color options have it, but its most noticable on our white ones) but I have the feeling that most of those folks aren't into cleaning their own cars. Rich bastards
Ok, on to the good stuff. The little Japanese gnomes that designed this car constantly call me a ***** for entering a corner at 50mph less than what the car is capable of. A corner on Route 2 east of stevens pass says 40 mph, so I enter at 100mph. I expect SOME body roll...some drama...Nope, flat as a pancake and the car seems bored. I nail the throttle - the gnomes told me to - and accelerate to 130ish by the exit. Still, the gnomes laugh at me. Next corner warns us to slow to 35. 100 should be fun. No...The gnomes giggle and make jokes about the size of my manhood. DAMNIT! What the hell does it take to unsettle this thing? Stab the brakes when I think I see a cop mid corner, at 110 ish and the tires dont even wisper. Put the throttle to the floor afterward realizing that 'cop' is just a white Impala and the gnomes giggle again as the car holds the line and sticks like paint. This thing has limits higher than my brain tells me should be possible. I really need a track day.
The car also gets more attention than Pamela Anderson riding a bike naked. I don't mind the attention at all, I love to talk all things automotive, but its suprising to see the fan-fare around this Nissan. A recent trip to the grocery store (It has a big trunk!) took 20 minutes...talking to the 30 Honda Vtec guys that were gathered around after I got out of the Fred Meyer took an hour..but its all good
It's fun to own and show off.
Night, its late, and I'm too tired to spell check this post.

local track regulars have been waiting to see one out there after all of the media hoopla -- I did not see any this year.
I have read about the VDC off = voided warranty and was curious why they would even allow VDC to be turned off if it would void the warranty... or put it on a timer of sorts that only allowed VDC off after the warranty expires.
I think it is BS... but I guess it is what it is.
certainly an amazing piece of engineering.
Are these selling for MSRP now?

We will all look forward to meeting you at an event or drive sometime soon.
