Can you guys help me out?

Ok, So Right now I am in NC and I won't get back until Dec. 9th. I need to leave by january 6th for school. I want to have my license before I leave. I have 50 hours of drive time to do. 10 hours at night. You guys have any good tips or stories to help me learn what NOT to do?

Thanks in advance,
-Nate

I learned how to drive in a parking lot, when I thought I got a bit better, I went to another area. Then when I had my permit, my dad had to go to Portland for a business thing, he told me to drive. Thats about three hours of driving there, and another three back. Just drive around in an area that you know like the back of your hand, thats what I did, slowly I expanded to other areas . Just dont drive like a jackass and not speed. I've been driving since I was 13, legally since 15 (permit) and I still have a lot of learning to do.

I've been driving (legally) since fourteen. North Dakota is an amazing place...

Parking lots and neighborhoods you are familiar with. Head out onto the highway when and where there is little traffic to get used to the speed. It helps to have someone with you in the car for that one. A trusted adviser... Take it easy, be careful, and post up where you'll be practicing so I can avoid those areas...

Take a couple of cones or other objects that you can feel if they touch the car, but will not hurt the car if you touch them.

Create some obstacles in an empty parking lot. Get a sense for where the edges of the car are. This will make parking and such much easier.

Be sure to spend some time practicing backing up around corners. This really helps give a sense for where the car is.

Be sure to have a patient person in the passenger seat to coach you along.

Let us know how it goes.

When I had my permit, my dad took me to the dol where I'd be taking my test. Practiced there pretty much every other night. Paralell parking, then in to the street's. That way you'll feel like you own the area and feel more comfortable. Assuming you've driven with your parent's regularly, they can sign off for 50 hr's of driving. 50 hr's of parking lot, practiced driving will not I REPEAT NOT!!! Change your first time behind the wheel. I recommend the dol idea ^ (very helpful imo). Then, PLEASE DO NOT SPEEEEEEEED!!! I can tell you from experience it's not worth it. So many people have told me not to do it I didn't listen. Fine go ahead... speed, this will result in legal fees to someone we may all know very well, Jags. Don't want to pay Jags his fee, then pay your 150$ ticket cuz you save 100$ then for then next 3 years you'll get an insurance premium that's about that much. Plus every time you get pulled over, Whether or not you've hired an attorney or just payed the ticket the police can see it all on their little computers, THEN (especially the Bellevue 50) will never let you go W/O a little thin, green, see thru piece of paper that's what-a date with a girl to let's say a nice place (or like 5 haha) or perhaps gas in the car. **** 2 1/2 years of driving, 5000$!!!! later That's what I went through to actually have the motivation to type this all up. My brother over 20,000$!!!! in fees to an attorney plus, a totaled BMW. All cuz of speeding.

Find a great driving school, pay attention in class and on the road. Go for a drive with Atomic and then do the opposite (only refering to the speeding!)! hehe

I have heard great things about this school. My son will go to a true driving school on the track before he ever gets seat time on the road.

Thanks for all the replys,

StorminS4: Lets see, I will be practicing all over the place, so watch out.

Bleu: That sounds like a good idea, time to go find me some cones. My dad was so nervous the first time He was just like, "Here I'll stand here, and you can try to park." That was good practice.

igortiger: I got the first part and I totally lost you on that second bit. I get the don't speed part.

BuzzedHornet: I have heard great things about Proformance Driving school, Mr. Dad says that I will be attending one soon. How soon I do not know.

http://www.proformanceracingschool.com/

Thanks again guys.

Who me?

Seriously aside, I do think it's a great idea to take a performance driving school because you _do_ learn techniques that would benefit you in the long run. I've taken various courses for years and it's helped me in every way on the public roads even when not driving like a speed demon.
