Car lift GB

Anyone looking for an easy to use Car lift, I posted a GB in the GB section. I know a few don't really like this lift, or think it's too expensive for what you get, but if you're limited on space for storage, it works great. I'm purchasing one this time around....
Check the link in my sig for the GB post.

It's a AWESOME lift for it is suppose to do. It's a small space/track lift. Not a use every day pro lift.

This is a INCREDIBLE price! I've tried to get a GB going on these, & he would never get below $1700.

If I had the extra money, I'd be in for sure!

I'm constantly swapping wheels/brake pads for track events, and having something like this would be a huge time-saver for me. But I'm constantly worried that I'll be disappointed in something I just dumped a couple G's on. At this price, it may be worth it.

James - How long do we have before the GB closes?

Thanks for asking me that. I forgot to add that to the thread.

troy get a really good aluminum jack from longacres or somewhere and change side to side. no space and i can change my rsa wheels in ten minutes maximum. spend your cash on a good torque wrench and a big volt cordless.

you should be able to crank up one side of your car easy with one lift point.

Well, I use it to swap pads and wheels. Here are the con's though:
  1. Once assembled the thing is about 4' x 4' square, what to do with it while not in use?
  2. Costly
  3. Need to drive most cars on wooden blocks in order to slide the lift below it. And then use wooden blocks on teh lift to properly match lift points on ones car. True on all three cars I own.
  4. Need to order proper width for a specific car. So my VW and Porsche use one width, while the Audi needs different cross bars, so I swap them. Even though only 8 screws, still takes few minutes and is a pain. By the time you swap for width, drive on blocks, raise the car. Someone else will have at least two wheels off using a nice jack.
Pros:
  1. Four wheels off the ground.
  2. Can go higher than a jack.
  3. If you are doing anything beyond pads and wheels, having the ability to work under the car - change oil, install exhaust, etc is much better than jacking the car 4 times and inserting stands at 4 corners.
Summary:

If all you do is jack up one side - two wheels up and swap tires (jack stand as insurance only) - Good jack is easier. But if you use the jack to raise your car and place it on stands... this lift is a much better alternative. So thung about it as a stand alternative, not a jack alternative. #1 con is the biggest deal for me. But I just swapped winter tires for summers, and I used the EZ lift on all three cars.

Yeah, that's what I have now and it's exactly what I do... Jack up one whole side and get two wheels and sets of brake pads done at a time. I'm a super-slow worker, so it's taking me 40 minutes per side, mostly because a) I'm just plain slow, and b) I only have a one-car garage with no room to store everything, so I have to keep going back and forth to my storage room under the house to get/drop off wheels, brake pads, etc.

I was kind of hoping that doing all 4 at once would save me 15 or so minutes overall, getting everything to under an hour overall. Also, to have the car a little higher than just jacking up one side, I could get a small stool to store all my tools, can just sit there and wrench away, as opposed to squatting on my knees or sitting on the floor.

Tomasz - Thanks for the feedback. I was able to research this a little more, and came up with many of the same cons that you listed. It would almost certainly take me even longer than it does now to swap everything, given that I'd have to figure out an "easy" way to get this under my car somehow in a garage just 9 feet wide.

Yeah, I go back and forth. I like to do it myself first time, so I know what it takes, and then outsource it next time. This way I can judge value and quality better. Of course, if you develop a trusting relationship... you can skip that step. But curiosity gets me.

I'm a little on the fence about this now. I forgot that I'd have to buy new crossmembers if I change cars (which I'm planning on doing in the next year). I like to do everything on my car though. Suspension, exhaust work, etc. I have a decent jack, but it only goes so high. Makes exhaust work a bit difficult.....

You guys that work on your own cars inpire me to sit by the pool and drink a cold one while you're doing it.

Funny thing is the 911's take like 5 minutes a wheel to change the brakes and I still don't want to do it.

My track crew could change a 911 radiator in 30 minutes bumper off and all.

Mark, call me when you need help sitting in the pool enjoying a cold one and someone is working on the car. I'll gladly sit there and watch too. I also volunteer to test-drive them afterwards.
