whats the world coming to?

First, we got HIV/AIDS from monkeys, mad cow from I guess mad cows, then there was bird flu which I'm not sure where that can from, now we have swine flu going around.

What's everyone's take on this whole epidemic? As of yesterday I think they said there are 6 cases here in WA. I'm not sure if I learned this in school or if I just dreamt it up but I remember hearing that when a species begins to overpopulate, nature helps reduce the population thru diseases. Does anyone feel that is the case with this or do you think that its justdue to unsanitary conditions and the lack of awareness on a part of a few?

I just read that Egypt slaughtered all of their pigs. I didn't even know Egypt had a population of pigs being that its a heavily Muslic populated nation. Pretty soon our Chili's will only serve chicken and steak like the restraunts in Qatar.

We are ripe for a pandemic. Have been for some time. Yes, you're right about population and disease. We seem to think we are above the natural order of things on this planet, that we are not part of the animal population, but we need to remember that nature thins out the numbers of any dominant species in any environment when it becomes too successful. It's just the way things work, always has. Couple this with the fact that we live in such great numbers with such proximity to each other...we are ripe for an airborn, leathal virus/other to thin the numbers. If it's not swine flu, it will be something else, sometime in the near future. Have a good day.

Hollywood has been telling us this for years, the world will come to an end because a flesh eating virus will mutate us into zombies! Get you shotguns ready

Seriously though, people are overreacting, people die of the "regular" flu every year and it doesn't make the news. Viri mutate all the time, nothing new really.

over hyped media sensationalism.

Swine flu: so far to-date this year, less than 2000 cases, most of them mild. 1 death in the US, only other deaths in Mexico, and under 200. (I'm rounding up assuming there will be more than announced yet).

Normal every day flu we get every year: 1 BILLION cases per year, resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths. EVERY YEAR.

Swine flu, like all versions of flu is something you should prepare for, wash your hands, try to stay healthy, don't cough on other people if you're not feeling well, consult your doctor. But it is far from deserving of the attention it's gotten in the media so far.

Did anyone hear the reaction when Paris Hilton was asked if she was worried about the swine flu?

"Swine flu- oh uh I don't eat that"

that made me smile.

More people get killed by a lot of things every year. I'm waiting for the media sensation about the Falling Off Ladders Pandemic sweeping the world. That one doesn't care about your gender, nationality, or age... Just kills you... Scary stuff. That's why I keep my feet firmly planted on the ground, and try not to walk around ladders to avoid getting hit by others...

i thought i had the swine flu - i was vomiting constantly, had body aches, cold sweat, hot flashes, fever, sore throat, all that....

turns out i had a different kind of flu. was miserable. i don't envy anyone that has to go through it though. the numbers aren't there to warrant the mass hysteria, but the fact that it did reach up here into WA is crazy.
