Cab in the NW worth it?
Cab in the NW worth it?
Hey folks. I tried searching but must have failed on this basic question which I'm sure has come up before. I'm still on my search for the "perfect" 911 as my first p-car and am considering a cab. I am concerned however with our less than stellar top down weather up here. I love the thought of putting the top down on the car and driving around in the NW when the weather cooperates on days like today for example. Having lived up here for over a decade however, I know we get far less days like this than we'd all like.
So for those of you who have cabs, have you found them to be worthwhile or would you rather have opted for the coupe?
Thanks in advance!

Coupe vs Cab is definitely a personal preference. I enjoyed my M3 every time I had decent weather, even if it wasn't completely sunny I'd put the top down. I think that WA is ideal for top down driving as we don't go over 100 F like in sunnier parts like CA.
I love my cab... although my daily driver is an S4. As far as the 997 cabs go however, with the top up it's pretty much as quiet as a hard top. They've done a great job. So if you enjoy popping the top, I say go for it. There's really not a whole lot of drawbacks to getting one, unless you plan on tracking the car/etc.
I'm about to embark on a ~1500 mile road trip. I'll be posting pics... and you can bet the top will be down the whole way as long as weather permits. That in itself is going to make the car more than worth it!!!!

The Porsche cab is incredibly quiet also at highway speeds. It's a very well made convertible top, but I personally prefer a coupe myself. Have you considered a Targa? The new targas are SWEET.

Second those of the comments above. The top is extremely well made and with the top up, my car is about as quiet as the coupes. Also, I've never come across a single leak of water as she seems as tight as a drum. Finally, as long as it's not raining, I've driven with the top down comfortably with the temp as low as the lower 60's.
Sounds good!
So it seems the top isn't much of a detractor then other than you can't track as much and that it might disturb the lines of the car vs. the coupe. I like to think that it has unmatched lines with the top down actually.
Are the 996 TT cabs less quiet than 997 cabs?

if you have a sunny day nice car you should only have a convertible imho unless you have 2 or 3 to choose from. 99% of these cars are driven only on perfect days whether it's cold or hot. The sun is out and having a convertible wouldn't matter either way.
I don't have enough convertibles myself

Link to my road trip pics. The car is so quiet with the top up that you forget it's a cab. I'm happy for the ability to drop the top... you experience everything around you.
