Range Rover Issues?
Range Rover Issues?
So we are seriously considering getting a Range Rover for Melissa, but before she goes and test drives one (and can't be talked out of it) what is everyone's thoughts? I have two colleagues who have experience with the brand. One of whom had nothing but bad to say, all of it along the lines of "you'll love it, when it's not stuck in the shop..." Then another who had one trouble free for dang near a decade.
My big concern is having it and living downtown (tight parking, but it has all the cameras).
Anyone have any love/horror stories?

Had my RR for 6 years problem free
I've had my 04 Range Rover HSE since I bought it in 05, and it has been virtually problem free. When the factory warranty expired I purchased a 4 year EasyCare TotalCare Service agreement.
Once that expires I will sell as I would not want to own this vehicle out of warranty and time for a new SUV anyways.

Owned a 99' only issue was the computer that controlled the air suspension and that is expected to go out at around 100k miles as it did. Cost me about 2k, otherwise I miss it.
Then got a 07' supercharged which I had for 18months, it had no mechanical, electronic, or drivetrain issues. It did go in the shop a number of times for cosmetic issues.
Yes they are great and beautiful but they can have some issues it is the luck of the draw. If I could afford to have another suv along with my CTT then it would be the new RRSC. I am sure that sometime in the future I will once again own a RR.

Only with a warranty as PJ said. If she is headed that way, please give my friend a shot at your biz. PJ and others here have bought from him. Sean Kent @ Land Rover Seattle in Lynnwood. PM me for his cell number if you wish. It is well known, DO NOT USE LR Bell for service.
I have a '05 Range Rover and love it despite it's quirks and issues but I hate Land Rover of Bellevue because they've consistently overcharged me for everything they've done so I refuse to go back there ever again. Since mine is out of warranty I just take it to Biggs for servicing. I wouldn't give her up for anything because I love her.
I agree with making sure there is a warranty, and if you can use an independent shop that specializes in RR instead of the dealer.
I assume you are speaking of the full size RR, as I would not recommend the sport. Per my service advisor he said that the sport is the most problematic car from rover. At the minimum it goes through brakes and tires like nothing else and it does not handle very sporty at all but takes away a lot of the luxury, space, off road ability, looks and prestige of having a rover.
From my experience the joy of driving a RR is the commanding driving position and view from how the window sits very low to my waist line and I get more visibility then anything else. The RR sport is the same as a ford explorer in terms of driving position.
I know women love the RR so it will be hard to convince her but try to have her drive the new Cayenne S. It is just as fast as a new RRSC and handles much better and is a little cheaper even loaded with options. I also think that it has more amenities, better gas mileage, porsche reliability (first place compared to last place for rover). Just have her test drive them both.
