Anyone get a speeding ticket on the Palisades before? I just did & need advice-

Got busted today on the Palisades Parkway in NJ in Bergen county for 72 in a 50 zone. I have a NY license, however, and read the following from the NY state DMV site:

Question: If I get a ticket for a moving violation in another state, do I receive points on my NYS driver license?

The NYSDMV does not record out-of-state violations committed by NYS drivers in other jurisdictions. The exceptions are alcohol-related violations, drug-related violations, and moving violations committed in Quebec or Ontario. Under special agreements, traffic convictions in Quebec or Ontario are recorded on NYS driver license records and carry points. Except for violations in Ontario and Quebec, points are not added to your NYS record for out-of-state violations.

So since my license is from NY State, does that mean I just pay the NJ issued ticket, I get no points, and my insurance co. is none the wiser? Or do I need to call a lawyer? Thanks in advance.

The Palisades Interstate Parkway is an odd "vortex" of legal independence. I will NOT drive on the Palisades as I've never succeeded in defending, plea-bargaining, or otherwise negotiating a ticket with the palisades parkway police.

I'd call Frank DeSousa and see what his professional opinion is.

if you have a NY license and you got the ticket in NJ, i believe you can plead for no points and just fine. i got a 80mph ticket in a 55 zone and got away with it. i believe you can only plead this three times. i have a lawyer that only charges a few hundred who i used last time, send me a PM if you need the number

Will do guys. Thanks again for everyones' advice. Btw, Jason is right- I think there is a clause in the state of NJ that allows an individual to plea a non-points ticket settlement, for an additional $250 plus $30 court fee on top of your ticket fine. You can use this "get out of jail for free card" up to two times in a 5-year period. The ticket then is characterized as a "unsafe driving" ticket with no points, and thus no points carry onto your home state or NJ DMV. Problem, I hear, however, is that insurance carriers are now catching onto this type of settlement, and kinda will know that these are code for speeding tickets. Will let you know how it turns out, as my court date is for May 6th. I'm gonna fight it!

you should be fine. i've had a few of those before and my allstate insurance has not picked up any of them. even if they do pick it up, you can call your insurance and say it's an inappropriate rate increase since the ticket is no-points

Consider yourself 'lucky' you were issued a ticket on the NJ side of the Palisades. Frank D. just settled a ticket I received on the NY side - 6 points and a fine - and believe me, I am grateful it was only that...

Guys, I travel the Palisades a lot - be careful - There is a TREMENDOUS amount of police coverage there. It has increased a lot in the past 2 years, probably due to the increase of 'runs' up to the Bear Mtn. area. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've watched guys get busted for trying to race me, while I'm just cruising along within the speed limit. They take off, and I find them a minute later on the shoulder with the boys in blue.

I'm still waiting for my court date. It said on the ticket that if I choose to plead not guilty, I had to call them at least 8 days prior to my court date listed on the ticket. When I called them to tell them I was gonna plead not guilty, they pushed the court date to mid-July, probably so that they have time to line up the cop who gave me the ticket. *******s.

Anyway, I hear that in NJ, I can bargain for a no-points plea and pay a large fine, instead of getting the points. Will shoot for that, and let everyone know how it turns out. No more speeding on the Palisades for me. Was driving up to Bear Mountain just last weekend, and my radar warned me just in time...another cop hiding right over a slight hill just waiting for me.
