The "NEW" Hyundai...
More to the story than just that drag race video clip...

One of my employees has a 350Z and if the 370Z is of the same build quality, f'that... The thing is plastic bits and doesn't wear well... Over the 6 years she's had this car it's gone from so so to not so... Plastic wears poorly, and the car has developed squeeks, rattles, and buzzes...

As for the interior fo the 350z you have no rebuttal from me as I have one and can attest to everything you said. The 370z from all accounts is miles ahead of the 350z in every aspect especially the interior. Newer models tend to improve on the outgoing model you know
Every comparison has said so so far and I myself have sat in two different examples and can tell you it is indeed miles ahead of the 350z. That pathetic plastic is gone for the most part. Its not BMW or Porsche level in side but its nice for its class and especially considering the last model.

I'm not too sure on American pricing, but looking at a direct $ conversion from USD to AUD with regards to the Hyundai (as the vehicle isn't sold here, we have to price to work off), and looking at the current pricing of some of those cars you are comparing it with within our market, it is by no means a fair comparison. The 350z, and now 370z market for around $60,000, the Mustang for over $100,000, and the BMW 135 for around $75,000 - AND THESE PRICES ARE BASE MODELS. This compared with the Hyundai at under US$30,000 fully optioned, which comes to AU$43,500ish.
Obviously US pricing will differ, and the Mustang being a USDM vehicle will be considerably cheaper, but I can't see how your comparison is fair?? The BMW is a prestige car, the Mustang a V8 etc.

Hey mate
[im not austrailian though
] Well first off its not my comparison its Motor Trends. Also I said "fully loaded to fully loaded". Here in the states the pricing is a whole lot closer between these three than those in Austrailia you posted. For instance the Mustang in this test is cheaper then the 370z if I read right so your prices to our prices isnt apples to apples hence you being unable to draw the same conclusion as I. BTW I cat believe a Mustang goes for more than a BMW in Australia lol.
I'm not as much a cheerleader for Hyundai as I am disappointed with NISSAN in general. But hey if they've made strides to improve the car, great... The Hyundai Genesis coupe impressed me. The interior was nice, to me, and the fit and finish of the car, again, was nice to me.
The pricing on the Genesis coupe is as follows -
Base model 2.0T - $22K
Premium 2.0T - $24,250
2.0T Track model - $26750
Base model 3.8L - $25K
Grand Touring 3.8L - $27500
Track Model 3.8L - $29500
W/6 speed auto - $31750
The warranty is also amazing at 10 years 100K miles...
I haven't priced a 370Z yet, but I'm guessing you can't get into a base model 370Z for under $22K.
And here's the rub... I'll likely not own either of these, as I've got two street cars (one a highly modified Porsche 996TT), a motorcycle and a track car. I was interested in the Hyundai for my wife, but she prefers the G37, go figure
... I still think the Hyundai is a tremendous value for the money and will expect to see lots of them on the road...The reason for this post was that I simply was WOWed by Hyundai producing this car. I haven't kept up with their product line, because, well it's always been a "throw away" car in my mind.

Ok you sound kinda biased and you havent even sat in or read any reviews of the 370z as your comments about the interior seem to tell. Those Hyundai coupe links are nice. Any car tested by itself will shine better than when its up against quality competition. The link I showed was of it against two other cars that "may" be cross shopped and it didnt do as well. Read the article. It was whooped not only on the straights but also in the twisties.

Actually, I'm bored, so I went over to www.nissanusa.com and built my 370Z... Matched to the Auto version of the Hyundai Genesis coup with the Track Option and 6speed auto which is $31750... Price for the 370Z came out to $39,455... That's over $7700 difference in price in two vehicles as comperable as I could get it, not optioning the special Yellow paint or the Nav system on the Nissan... So saying they're close in price is hugely misleading... I'll work up the Mustang a little later... Again, COMPERABLE to how I"d spec them out, big brakes/track options and an auto tranny *(as if I were to spec it for my wife).
That, coupled with the warranty (Nissan's is 5 years or 60K miles on powertrain), would make some think twice about which car to buy... Lots of folks could care less who won the drag race or the other tests (although if I were driving it daily I'd certainly opt for the 370 IF the interior, fit and finish were on par with or better than the Hyundai).
The 370Z "looks" good... I just hope Nissan didn't pull a "chevy corvette" 80% build quality on the consumer...
EDIT: I Just spec'ed the Mustang GT with 5speed auto, Package 401A, 19inch polished wheels, glass sunroof and security package, trying to copy the specs on the Genesis coupe to get them comperably equipped... Price with the Monsoon 500 audio system and NO Nav package brought the Mustang GT up to $37,315... Again, just trying to show a "fair" comparison of the cars comperably equipped... Strangely enough I couldn't find a brake upgrade for the Musang GT, or a track package option... Maybe I'm missing something... Didn't want to dive to heavily into their accessories bin to get it spec'ed properly, but no "big brakes" to go with the 19inch polished wheels I speced.

I think the 2 ltr Turbo models will be a serious problem for the 370z mod for mod, moreso than the v6 version, as I heard the 2 ltr shares the same block as the EVO if Im not mistaken. From all the testing so far it looks like the v6 Hyundai Coupe has no chance vs the 370z. If you do get one for the wife and she likes to mod, the 2 ltr sounds like the best deal and the most potential.

Pete
I agree 110% there, except my "argument for the Hyundai warranty" goes right out the window!
Fun stuff for sure!

I see where you are coming from. Yeah no other car in the Hyundai Coupes class will beat it in the performance/dollar ratio. Base for the 370z is 30k so no competition for the value priced shopper between it and the Hyundai Coupe. Really is a knockout, especially stylingwise, considering its Hyundai and it is a cleaner design compared to the 370z.

**Edit** here is the link for the construction of the 2.0 in the Genesis (it is the Ralliart block)-
http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/09/b...ew-2-0t-motor/
But here is a story on the first dyno run and it is quite good-

I really like the look of the Genesis coupe, but our dealer was trying to get 3K OVER MSRP for a "Market Adjustment". I almost fell over when I saw that...

I really like this car . . . pictures do not do this car justice. AMS just bought one a few days ago, and have already jumped right into testing, they bought a 2.0T Track, so it will be interesting to see what they can do with the car
Gungriffin thanks for the correction. You are right. I did remember reading that Hyundai or someone said the block was tested to over 30psi safe

As J-Rod stated I too cant wait to see what AMS does with one. The aftermarket will fix the stock shortcomings like the suspension and power. This car modded will be a beast for sure. Could this possibly be the Korean Supra
Yeah warranty is bust with that scenario lol.

They are saying 400hp on the stock block, but that is just until someone does a Evo motor swap. HAHA wonder how long it will take before someone does this...
AMS fabbed up a custom exhaust for the car today . . . 3" for the 2.0T, haven't installed the test pipe yet, but they're working on the up and downpipes as well . . . at the rate they're going I'm guessing 2-3 weeks before they've tested the stock block on the 2.0T to the max, so we won't have to wait long!
We just need Vortech/Comptech to get ahold of the 3.8V6 and see what they can fab up
