Wanna get some new JDM rice....
been deciding wether I should go with the FD2 Civic Type R or a 2.5L version GRB STI to play with probably till end of the year.
The price difference is almost non-existance since its only about 4g USD with the latter being more expensive.
FD2

What I like:
More character, loud high revving VTEC engine, slick 6spd, prettier exterior, high resale value (after a year, I can still get 80% of the price back), no plans to mod... since I cant get power out of it! and not many places in the world can actually buy it.
What I don't like:
FWD, lack of torque, its still a Civic, will probably get bored of it sooner then I expect. hate the interior.
GRB STI

What I like:
Turbo, torque, AWD, less driven around in HK, boxer rumble, might even keep it for a longer period of time
What I don't like:
Too many things I wanna mod on it, heavier, 2.5L not the 2.0L model, available else where in the world
What would u guys choose between these two cars?

i've been a Subaru fan for a long time, and i LOVE my STi (USDM '05, 2.5L). as far as mods are concerned, they're relatively cheap. especially in comparison to the other cars on this forum. you add a good chunk of power for US$1500 (turbo-back exhaust and ECU reflash), but i don't know how much more it might cost you there. i'm way more biased toward the Subaru, but i would say it's much faster and more practical (AWD, large cargo, lots of utility) than the Honda. the Honda, however, should have better gas mileage, better super-long term reliability (if you even have it that long), and lower insurance rates.
edit: btw, looking at the Collection you have in your signature, what exactly do you need the car for? it seems like you've got something that can already fit the bill for anything that either of the Subaru or Honda would be able to do for you. they're two very different cars, so knowing what you're going to use it for might help with the choice.

for HK, I think the new STI will actually have lower insurance rate compare to the Type R LOL
The thing is, I don't really wanna mod this either of these cars, but there are just too much to mod on the STI. if using the porsche language, I'm pretty much comparing a 997 Turbo against a 997 GT3RS.
the FD2 is easier to sell afterwards as I do have a lot of friends that are more then willing to take it off my hands when I don't want it and make it their dedicated track car (it meets the standard for N group race). STI on the other hand would be much tougher

that's really funny about the insurance.
well, given that you're obviously looking at this in the short-term, i'd get the Honda. from what you're saying, it's cheaper and you'll be able to get rid of it easier.

nah... nothing I have other then the 7RS could keep me entertained... everything else is either automatic, or dual clutched
probably none of them would be involving to drive as the FD2 or STI

that's no brainer, STI. I own one and couldn't be happier with it. the only downside of it is; if you want to mod it above stage 2, you should upgrade the pistons. I am currently around 450-470 awhp and couldn't be happier, it's a blast to drive.
I like the Civic more. Have been very impressed with them and I couldn't imagine how great the Type R would be. I aim to eventually get a USDM ITR myself.
I've got a buddy with a GRB STi. The looks grow on you, but it's still a little wonky. The Civic takes getting used to as well, but I'm still partial to the Honda in this situation. I think it would be more fun.

Wonky? LOL
just driven the GRB.... I can't say I don't like it.... but I can't find it exciting either. it felt slower then I expected it would be.... maybe it was the 2.5 engine and not the rev happy 2.0
I'll try out my friend's FD2 tonite and see how it feels....
