paddle shifters for the panamera - sourced

did anyone else catch in the latest issue of Excellance - May 2010 - the letter regarding retrofit paddle shifters on a PDK vehicle?

the letter part mentions that Champion motor sports has an option where they can take the multi function PDK steering wheel and install black or aluminum shift paddles.

i checked their site - www.championmotorsport.com but could not find anything for the 2009 model years. i suspect the site just needs an upload of new info?

anyway - that will be my 1st option if i cut a deal on the PTT i am looking at right now. keeping the stock multi fucntion steering wheel is a little more important in these cars as it gives a lot of control over the instrument dial info screen - really a must to use properly.

so keeping the stock multi function AND getting paddle shifters would be perfect imo!!

TechArt apparently has a cost effective solution for $650 or so. I would contact your local TechArt dealer or call CEC, Inc.

The buttons are awful!!! The multi function wheel is a must though, you can't control all the functions without it, including reseting the the tire pressure settings, chrono, and oil level, to name a few. A retro fit would be awesome!!!!!!

This was my biggest complaint to Porsche after I took delivery. This car needs proper paddles, those buttons are ridiculous.

Keep us posted on the Champion solution. Thanks!

I have both. My Panamera obviously has the Buttons and my 2010 997TT PDK has Paddles.

I wouldn't change a thing. I love the buttons in the Panamera and feel they suit the car perfectly. The paddles in my Turbo are amazing as well.

Im a happy camper.

See OEM wheel for distance reference.
The paddles are actually positioned in a very comfortable location. When you compare our system to the OEM system you will notice very similar positioning. The photos might through if off from the angels in which the shots were taken. During out months of testing we found this to be the most ergonomic position for comfort and performance.

so you are replacing the whole OEM toggle with the paddle and a "dummy" fill in for the new piece.

is there a version which flush mounts the front to more or less hide the old toggle look? it looks a bit like it is still functional as a thumb activated switch?

otherwise looks good.

They are in place and available now. You just have to have your wheel removed and shipped to Champion who will do the install/retrofit at their shop. They only do the installs at their shop unfortunately. Had them do my 997S wheel and have to say I use them regularly now. Wish a little more space between the paddles and the controls stalks but you get used to it.

The front of the Champion switches is pretty flush but nothin to cover the whole front of the wheels like I think you suggest. However the Champion piece is solid (aluminum or steel I think from the feel) and is not moveable so although it may look thumb activated...it most definately is not.

Good luck and enjoy.
